Description

"Wayne's World, Wayne's World! Party time! Excellent! Woo, woo, woo!"

It's Friday, it's 10:30 and like usual, Wayne and Garth are presenting their TV show. First they start off by reading a top-10 list of the worst games they recently played at the arcade. Then Wayne accounts on how he and Garth were suddenly sucked into a video game, and Garth was kidnapped by the mysterious Zantar. "Weeuuu, weeuuu, weeuuu!" FLASHBACK, and now you're suddenly in control of Wayne as he must embark upon a quest to save his good pal Garth.

Not to be confused with the DOS license, this Wayne's World is a platform- style game. You must jump, fight and rock your way through 4 different levels which include Kramer's Music Store, Stan Mikita's Donut Store, Gas Works and Surburbia. Using Wayne's guitar as your sonic weapon, it's most excellent noise will bring death to various enemies. Will you save Garth from the evil purple clutches of Zantar? SCHWING!

This Game Rocks!....NOT!

The Good
Wayne's World took a CBC/Saturday Night Live skit and turned it into not one, but two successful films that connected with teens coming of age in the early 1990's. If you were a "young adult" during this era, chances are you saw the films, loved the characters and eagerly awaited the chance to play the video game.

The Bad
Wayne's World is a unimaginative single-player, side-scrolling, platform game. This in itself is not a death sentence as many other games that fall under this tried and true genre can still be incredibly imaginative, even fun to play. Yet, their is nothing about this game that is particularly creative, fun or enjoyable. The game offers substandard graphics, sound, and music. The one liners get old fast, the hit detection is cheap and the control mechanics are far from perfect.

The Bottom Line
Wayne's World is not a good platform game and has almost nothing to do with the feature film. To be fair, creating a side-scrolling, platform game based on a goofy, low-brow, teen film was a bad idea to begin with. Yet, that only begs the question; Why couldn't the Wayne's World on the SNES be a funny, point n' click graphic adventure game? That is what the Wayne's World is on the DOS and its much better then this piece of trash.
