Description

The game takes place in the year 2062. A baddy named Moribund Kadaver has assumed control of a cryogenics plant near Monstro City. Kadaver is apparently a former mortician who has dabbled in cryogenics ever since he purchased Deadly Enforcement Aggressive Destruction Incorporated, aka DEAD Inc. Now he has the power to unleash mutants called Psykogenix on the population of Monstro City! The Military Ascertainment Department (MAD) has decided to call upon the world's most vicious mercenaries: the Skeleton Krew.

Skeleton Krew has you choosing between three members of the deadly organization: Spine, Joint, and Rib. The object of the game is to make it through four planets on your way to stop Kadaver's nefarious plans.

The areas include Earth, Mars, Venus and finally the Psykogenesis Planet, where you will infiltrate DEAD HQ. A second player can join in for simultaneous play, and you can continue your game via passwords. Skeleton Krew features three difficulty levels.

I think this was programmed by a skeleton crew.

The Good
Some great dark cybernetic visuals. Well rendered sprites and scenery. I particularly enjoyed the sinister brooding music. Once you get to grips with the controls, the characters can walk and massacre at a smooth pace.

The Bad
This title is incredibly short and yet boringly repetitive at the same time. You will find yourself fighting wave after wave of the same enemy types throughout the entire game. The levels themselves are overly similar, with some interesting ideas introduced in the first two stages which are then later abandoned completely.

While I enjoyed the music, the sound effects are very sparse with little in way of variation. The game is also far too easy, I completed it on my very first play-through. The whole experience seemed rushed.

The Bottom Line
This was an interesting looking title that could have held real potential if the creators had not abandoned it halfway. Check it out for curiosities sake, but that's it.
