It would have been perfect... four years ago.
The Good
A few years ago, I discovered Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast. It was a shock, and it was my dream to play it on my PC...
So what's about Sonic Adventure Director's Cut on PC ? First of all, it is very fun to play, even on keyboard. The levels are very well designed and full of surprises and events (snowboard, races, pinballs...) You can play as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy... and two newcomers, Big the cat and a robot called E-102 "Gamma". Each explores a part of the story, which is better developed than usual. The game is not very long and not very hard, but filled with fun and energy ! And the music is very nice (the main theme is fantastic !)
The Bad
Well, here come the problems. First of all, the graphics are, err, old. The game is exactly the same as it was on Dreamcast, without any enhancements. Playing Sonic is cool, and Knuckles and E-102 too, but the others are a bit boring. Especially Big which levels consists in fishing... And you must finish all their stories to have the final fight... And I wonder where is that "director's cut", because adding some old Game Gear games in bonus isn't enough. And, the true flaw of this game : it seems somehow unfinished. There are still many bugs, the camera is alcoholic and the programming of the events and other cutscenes is not very well done.
The Bottom Line
Sonic DX is still a good game, but it seems very old now, especially with the lack of enhancements. If you like the blue hedgehog and don't know sonic adventure already, you may be interested in this PC version.

A attempt to match its rival's ascent into 3D
The Good
I must admit that I've never played the Dreamcast version of this game, so I will judge this game's merits on the Gamecube version alone. The game have its strong points, I know people have criticized the graphics on this game, but I find them quite good. Also a strong point for Gamecube users is that the library of Game Gear Sonic games are unlockable in this game, when they are not present in the Sonic Mega Collection. This game is a good first attempt at putting Sonic into the 3D platforming world.
The Bad
However, there exists many flaws in this game, with many elements seemingly lifted from Mario 64, I would have thought Sega would tried tried to innovate within the 3D platforming field, much like the original Sonic innovated the 2D platforming field. They even lifted the poor camera system of Mario 64 and made it worse...The fact that you had to switch to free camera every new stage made it really annoying...Also certain characters seemed to be added for no reason...after the first 3 characters of the game, the game loses some luster...
The Bottom Line
This game isn't a necessity for gamers, not to sound like a Nintendo fanboy or anything, but I feel the Mario platformers are much better than this game to experience 3-D platforming.

Excellent way to experience the classic Sonic Gang.
The Good
SAdx allows players to follow the same story through six different perspectives and continue adventuring through Mission and Trial Modes. Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles are reunited against Robotnik, AKA Eggman, along with the perky Amy and two new friends, Big the Cat and E-102 Gamma.
The Bad
Aside from difficult to control camera angles and brief storylines with Big and Gamma, the game leaves little to be desired. However, the storylines of each of the six characters overlap, leaving questions as to what the real story is. Each character tells his/her own version of the story, as if three little kids were arguing over who broke the kitchen window. Did Tails defeat Eggman's first contraption, or did Knuckles? Did Sonic win or lose the fistfight with Knuckles, or did Tails perform the fight all along? We just can't tell who's got the true angle, although we can all just assume that Sonic is the real hero.
The Bottom Line
SAdx is yet another great game featuring everybody's favorite super-sonic blue hedgehog, Sonic. And, though there is always room for improvement, Sonic Adventure DX has exceeded my own personal expectations and gone past the limit to prove once again that Sonic is indeed the fastest and greatest Hedgehog Hero of them all!

Trivia
You may recognize the music in the third part of Windy Valley : it is in fact the music of the level Green Grove in Sonic 3D.
