Description official descriptions

A slight change from the normal excessive number of F1 games out there, Spirit of Speed 1937 was an attempt to put you into the driving seat of some of the oldest, and well known, racing cars of the early-century. Take control of one of the 1930s cars and race it out around tracks, many of which are no longer available for professional competitive racing. The game is a single player race around historic tracks in a single race or a full circuit.

Plays like a game from 1937.

The Good
The Cars are OK & pretty fast for the time & the tracks aren't like today's tracks but look country-like & I like that & the presentation was great too.

The Bad
The Graphics were OK but were sometimes Glitchy, & the music I DID NOT LIKE, & the engine sounds like an old van! The Gameplay was sluggish & when the car was going fast, it didn't fell like it at all.

The Bottom Line
This game disappointed me a bit, because I liked the look of the game & compared to the fantastic Grand Prix Legends for the PC, but it wasn't as good, I expected a better game from Microprose which made fantastic racing games including the superb Grand Prix 3 maybe they should of put that on the Dreamcast instead of this!

Trivia

While the LJN Entertainment brand was mainly used by Acclaim Entertainment to get around Nintendo's limitation on the total number of titles a single publisher could release on the NES, it was brought back specifically for the release of this game. Why they did that, however, is still unknown.
