Description official descriptions

The lords of Chaos, Kinetics, Synthesis, and Vitality compete for dominance, each trying to possess ether, the world's governing force. The goal of each of these leaders is to defeat the current White Lord, the master of ether, and become the next White Lord of the realm.

Etherlords is a turn-based card strategy game set in a fantasy world. The player selects either the Kinet/Vital or the Chaot/Synthet campaign. The heroes in the game are the units the player moves around the strategic map, much like in Heroes of Might and Magic series. However, instead of having hordes of creatures following the hero, he/she is equipped with a deck of fifteen cards. With these cards the player can summon creatures and cast different spells.

In the beginning the player only has the standard set of cards available per race, but as different locations on the strategic map are captured, the player can buy new, more powerful cards. To buy cards the player needs resources, which can be simply picked up or acquired by capturing mines. Both the strategic map and the battlefield utilize 3D graphics.

Cool game idea, but some patches are seriously needed.

The Good
1. The inventive gameplay. The idea of computerizing a trading-card game works really good.

  1. Graphics are great.

  2. Music is great

  3. Many creatures.

  4. You can download other players decks of cards and match them against your own deck. This is probably the most fun part of the game.

    The Bad
    1. The strategic gameplay is not as fun as it could be.

  5. The AI is...not intelligent.

  6. Multiplayer only available in duel mode! You can't play hotseat either duel or strategic.

  7. No map generator, and no map editor.

  8. Since this is based on card games, luck plays a big deal. To big.

    The Bottom Line
This is a good game, and could be fun to play around with until you get your hands on HoMM4 and AoW2. The game development was rushed to get the game out before christmas, and this is why there is no multiplayer abilities when this is written. But it is said that full multiplayer support will be added later. Also a map editor will be made available.

Buy this only if you're a hardcore Turn-based fantasy fan.

Trivia

Multiplayer

Fishtank forced Nival to release the game before they were finished, so unfortunately the multiplayer mode is restricted to two players. The multiplayer was patched in version 1.06.
