Description official description

OpenTTD ("Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe") is a freeware, open-source remake of the traffic simulator from 1995. It greatly expands the original game, featuring lots of new additions and maps several times larger in size. The version available requires separate graphics and sound resource files to work. The player can use the assets from the original game or download the free custom sets created specifically for the remake.

The main objective remains the same, to create and maintain a complex infrastructure of transport units and connect the industry installations of a region. The map is randomly generated at the start, where several initial parameters can be tweaked to produce unique environments. Custom maps and scenarios can also be built with the integrated editor.

Your childhood love come to life

The Good
OpenTTD is your childhood love come back to life. It is everything from the classic, with just a few tweaks and additions, but very much keeping in line with the classic.

The Bad
There is nothing to not like about OpenTTD.

The Bottom Line
A timeless classic. Simple on the outside, yet when you get in depth with the game, you'll find an advanced AI that proved challenging in 1994 and still does today.

Trivia

Official platforms

According to its developers, the game is officially supported by the following platforms:

  • *BSD, especially FreeBSD, NetBSD and OpenBSD
  • Linux
  • Solaris
  • Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP/Vista/7

Due to the tangled family trees of *nix operating environments, this may mean that versions can be compiled from those versions to other, more hardware-specific platforms; for instance, the game also has a webOS port, but only to the HP Touchpad (as the Pre's touchscreen is just too small for the game's numerous fiddly little buttons.)
