Description official descriptions

Need For Speed: ProStreet is the 11th game in the NFS series.

It doesn't just include new and more detailed graphics, it includes a new type of gameplay. The game doesn't have a Free Roam mode (as in Underground 2, Most Wanted or Carbon), but it has an Event Map, similar to Juiced's Event Calendar.

The player's main goal in this game is to become the "King of the street". Nothing new. However, there are no more illegal races in the game - all of the available races are sponsored, and the action takes place on different racing tracks. No more traffic, no more in-town driving.

The game features 2 gameplay modes. Career (you start your "life" as a lowlife race driver and over time you will conquer everyone) and free play (where you can race unlocked cars and unlocked tracks).

As usual, the game includes a jukebox where you can listen to some singles, used by EA as the game's Sound Track. The game also includes new car models, and the classic racing modes except for cop chases, since ProStreet does not promote illegal racing. Also as usual, when you first start the game you will be prompted to create an alias (profile). You can choose which one will be loaded when you start the game again. After creating the alias, you are prompted to choose your difficulty settings.

All versions, except for the PlayStation 2 and Wii, contain online multiplayer modes.

Not much to say about this game...

The Good
The game's graphics are very realistic, and when played on maximum detail, they are stunning. Simply put, ProStreet is one of the most beautiful games i've ever seen.

The game physics engine is also as good as the game's graphics, and collisions with walls or other cars really have a "special feeling."

Also, the game features an extremely realistic damage system,so, it's no good to crash your car just for fun. It will really decimate your chances to win.

The in-game sound is okay, but the singles from the game's SoundTrack are of mediocre quality.

The online racing is cute though. It's really nice to race against your friends over the Internet.

The Bad
What I didn't like about this game? Most of the other parts.

The car design isn't very nice, and some tuned cars look very bad. Visual tuning in the rest of the NFS games was more interesting and even more fun.

There is no free-roam mode, so you have only a Career Map. You can select to go to events or to your garage from there.

There is no police, and no illegal street racing. Only sponsored events and stuff.

The voice acting in prostreet is also of a mediocre quality. The actors always seem to be bored "when reading the script".

The racing modes are fewer now. Such modes as "circuit" or "drag" are still available, but those as "drift mode" are dropped, apparently for no reason.

The car's control is very difficult, and for some difficult turns, it's really impossible to "survive" without having to slow down to 10-20 km/h.

Also, there are tons of adverts in ProStreet. And that is no good thing. It really makes the game to look as an advertising postboard.

The online ingame mode for sharing files is buggy, and the in-game messenger isn't quite useful... .

The Nitro Option is as usual, present, but depending to your car it can be used once or twice times per race. And there are no graphical effects when using it.

The Bottom Line
Not really that bad, but it should have been better. And it could have been a lot better.

Should not have been released on PS2

The Good
I am a big NFS fan, and ProStreet is one of my favourites. I love the idea of modifying a wide range of cars, from low end to high end, and racing them. There are also some of my favourite cars, including an AE86 Corolla and a 1969 Dodge Charger, and many other nice cars in the Tuner, Muscle and Exotic catergories. Customising is fun, because you can choose to colour different panels and parts on the car, put stickers wherever you want. It is also fun to choose the different performance modifications and then tune them to get better power and handling.

The Bad
This game is almost unplayable on PS2. The graphics are terrible and the frame rate is slow. Some things can not be done properly, like warming up the tires before a drag race, and it is near impossible to add detail to the car. Custimising will also take a very long time to choose what to add to your car, so you are better off not visually customising the car.

The Bottom Line
This is a great game, just make sure you do not get the PS2 version

Accidental early release information

Russian distributor Soft Club unveiled the release date and the name of the game in February 2007. This was likely a mistake, as Electronic Arts did not reveal or confirm the title until 31 May 2007.

The game's online servers were shut down on 15 April 2011.
