Description official descriptions

Shining Force: Resurrection of the Dark Dragon is a remake of the first Shining Force game. The story still revolves around the Runefaust army trying to resurrect the Dark Dragon, but it features some new additions like new characters and additional story sequences in-between battles. Furthermore, dialogues have been expanded and the main hero has a background story now and is able to talk. Graphics have also received a complete overhaul, and the sound quality has been improved, although the compositions are the same as in the original.

The heart of the game are of course the tactical turn-based battles. You can take up to twelve different members of your Shining Force into battle. There are many different classes ranging from fighters and magicians to healers, knights, monks, ninjas and many more. In-between battles you can explore various towns to buy new weapons and items or chat with the townsfolk. There are also a number of secret characters and items to be discovered.

Shining Force's gameplay has also seen some changes. The interface has been slightly simplified and you can now organize your units before battles. During battles, it is now possible to view upcoming turns, which makes it much easier to plan your next steps. To make the battles more interesting, even for fans of the original, you receive certain bonuses (usually money or a weapon) for completing battles in a set number of turns. Finally, a card-collecting side-quest has been added. Cards can have various effects in battle and one character is able to transform into the cards that you have found.

Hey there's a Dragon in my pants!

The Good
The remake of the infamous Sega Genesis strategy RPGS, Shining Force is still one of the best examples of the genre. Ten years later and it is just as fun and engaging as it was the first time.

In Shining Force you are Max a warrior of exceptional skill, who lives in the Kingdom of Guardinia. When the Runefaust army attacks, Max is charged with invading the enemy’s lands and leading the Shining Force to victory. The story is largely the same, thought there are a few new elements, such as playing short epilogues as the Princess of Runefaust. As well as the new cards and a character that can use the cards in battle. Some of the characters are in different places this time, for some reason.

The Graphics have been completely over hauled in this version. Not to the point that the game is unrecognizable. The sprites are bigger and more detailed, the graphics are more colorful and just look better. The in battle graphics are also better, it is a 32 bit 2D version of Shining Force.

The Music and Sounds are all familiar, and if anything sound better than before. Shining Force already had an amazing score and now it is even better.

The gameplay is the same as well. You still explore towns, dungeons, buy new weapons and items, promote your party members, and build up your force. You still fight an a grind based battlefield. There are slight changes like having to wait longer to promote your characters, and new locations for some characters

The Bad
The new characters are pretty useless. And the increased difficulty every time you finish the game is and odd adage. We probably won’t get a remake of Shining Force II.

The Bottom Line
Shining Force fans have to play this, or the Shining Force will kick your ass.
