Description official descriptions

Dead Or Alive: Xtreme Beach Volleyball takes all the female fighters from Dead Or Alive 3, sends them to a tropical island named Zack Island, and pits them in volleyball matches.

At the outset, you choose from one of eight characters, all female. When you first play the game, the new character, Lisa, introduces you to a few aspects, and joins you for your first volleyball match. All matches are two-on-two, with the first team to seven being the winner.

Each day is comprised of four sections; morning, day, evening, and nighttime. There are several different areas you can visit; separate beaches and jungles to challenge different teams, an accessory shop, where you can buy accessories such as sunglasses, a sporting shop where you can buy new bikini's, a store called "Zack of all Trades" where you can buy miscellaneous items, such as a gun, lipstick, lotion, etc., a radio station, where you can select what soundtracks to listen to, or listen to your own, and the hotel, where each day ends.

Once nighttime comes around, you can visit the casino. Once there, you can play one of four games; Blackjack, Poker, Roulette, or Slots. Playing games can earn you money, but can also strip you of money.

There is a large variety of items to collect, and some items you must buy to entice someone to join your team. If a character's favorite color is black and her hobbies include cars, then you would buy them a black steering wall to pursuade them to join you.

Volleyball matches earn you money (if you win) and consist of three basic moves; serve, spike, receive. If you lose too many games, you're partner may ditch you. Win enough and her loyalty will increase.

XBV includes a multiplayer feature that lets you play against a friend.

How Crazy Are You?

The Good
Dark and dangerous looks, deadly weapons, enemies to be feared, and fight to the death... Dead or Alive 4!!! Or so the girls have thought ;)) No, no tournament at all this time, not deadly one anyway. One of the reasons for my getting Xbox was Shenmue II... the other one was this beauty. As new as I could possibly be in this, I entered the world of DOA franchise with only one thought in mind... "this has gotta be some relaxation or pleasureful game"... and believe it or not, 'tis exactly what this game is. There is no real goal to it, no real fighting, no deadly arenas to enter, but a far away remote tropical island with the known contestants of Dead or Alive tournaments. Only this time, the better half of our gender, only. Soundtrack includes various artists and it fits quite nice most of the way, and ability to play your own tracks is really great. The voice acting was perfect... and so cute, left fully japanese with subtitles. And views... well, views are exotic alright, in every sense of the way. It is a perfect game to play over the hot summer, when you're out of air conditioner, with nothing but a cold beverage to cool you off, not to mention it's far more affordable than a ticket to Hawaii.

The Bad
The opening cinematic alone is so tempting and beautiful that one (and that very one am I in this case) may assume he can find such things in a game. But no, no seduction, no provocative scenes, and nothing of a sort are you to find in the game, sigh. This makes you wonder why is this game rated for mature since top it basically has (one assumes you didn't master the "topless" mode) is a pack of beautiful girls sunbathing, swimming, and playing volleyball.

The Bottom Line
Xtreme Beach Volleyball features:

  • extreme beaches with lots of volleyball
  • Kasumi, showing you just how cute volleyball can be
  • Hitomi, showing you just how shapeful volleyball can be
  • Ayane, showing you just how determined volleyball can be
  • Tina, showing you just how hard volleyball can be
  • Leifang, showing you just how fast volleyball can be
  • Helena, showing you just how fierce volleyball can be
  • Christie, showing you just how deadly volleyball can be
  • Lisa, showing you how you can easily forget about volleyball
  • a two week vacation on Zack's island, with lots of exotic views
  • abilities to change angle, zoom in/out, and rotate camera during Gravure movies
  • hot bikinis and accessories to buy, making your, ahem, character enviable by any girl in the room
  • a really detailed textures, and breathtaking ingame graphics
  • nice moves during volleyball or jumping game
  • very nice moves during resting time
  • ability to see various tapes containing various DOA concepts
  • various artists soundtrack with ability to use custom soundtracks

A lot of tanned babes under the blazing summer but the volley.

    The Good
Beautifully rendered Babes, breathtaking scenarios, fluid animations, make this game enjoyable for kids and adults. Just to make an example, if you lead Hitomi at the pool side, she looks tanned on the deckchair. And that is only one, of the several nice issues, that could be narrated about this game. However, donā€™t forget to read also the Cons, just below, since there are someā€¦

    The Bad
I have to say, before the considerations on this game that follows, that my wife managed for about three years, as trainer of an ā€œall female beach volley teamā€. Well then, you DO know what I mean. If you ever had the chance to watch a volley match, along with all the ā€œflesh and bonesā€ of the case, you couldnā€™t play DOAXBV at all. It seems like the developers, dazzled by their own digital Venuses, forgot all what they learned developing the previous, and glorious, Dead or Alive 3. This game does not have the same flare of its predecessor, nor it has the same longevity. I only could excuse while waiting for the fourth Tecmo establishment, also clearly indicated by Zack-the-Rocket-man while landing on the island, the long awaited Dead or Alive 4!

    The Bottom Line
You can go with it for miles; you can throw it on the bin after a while.
