Description official descriptions

In this sequel to Archimedean Dynasty, the player once again controls Emerald "Dead-Eye" Flint, the hero from the first game. Five years after Archimedean Dynasty, the underwater metropolis Neopolis, capital city of the Atlantic Federation, is a battlefield. It is a battle between the government and a new, hard line. Admiral Cox, well known from the previous installment, has to decide - and he really has problems with this decision...

Like its predecessor, AquaNox is a hybrid of submarine simulation and shooter. The game contains more than thirty single player missions and nine different player vessels. Flint earns money by completing missions, allowing him to purchase better submarines, weapons and equipment. Outside the submarine, Flint can visit stations, talk to NPCs, and receive missions from them. Unlike the first game, the player's view is fixed to the cockpit in this installment, and the controls resemble more those of a first-person shooter. The defensive turret system has been replaced by two cannons that can be installed on the hull.

Trivia

Ending

The game only contains the first half of the planned storyline, which explains why it seems to end in the middle of everything without a proper resolution.

Localization

According to Wolfgang Walk, the original French translation changed the background story significantly: it was about a genocide conducted by US America. They rejected the translation because they had a professional French translator in their studio who noticed the changes

Technology

AquaNox was upon release one of the "killer apps" for the at the time new GeForce3 graphic chipset. It was co-developed with NVIDIA to take advantage of the new features of the NV20 boards which allowed it to be one of the first games (if not the first) to include such effects as caustic reflections and radiosity lighting in a real-time environment.

Awards

  • GameStar (Germany)
