Description

Dizzy, the egg protagonist, is back in his fourth installment: Magicland Dizzy. The land has been corrupted by an evil wizard, and it's Dizzy's job to set everything right. To do this, he must walk, jump and flip through a large number of screens, pick up and use various items, and talk to people.

Platform/adventure game

The Good
The puzzles are well-thought-out and make for a challenging game. The soundtrack which is both jolly and atmospheric. Good wholesome fun which has great replay value.

The Bad
The ported Spectrum graphics just smack of laziness on the part of the game's designers, and the fact this is a Spectrum port means the screens update slowly (though thankfully nowhere near as slowly as the dreadful C64 version of Spellbound Dizzy). The in-game Dizzy sprite looks ugly.

The Bottom Line
Dizzy is an egg-person who must rescue his friends the Yolkfolk from a fairy-tale world where they have been imprisoned by the evil wizard Zaks. To do this you, as Dizzy, must explore the platform-filled landscape and use the various objects you find dotted about in order to proceed further in the game. For example, if you return the black cat to the witch she'll brew you a weedkiller potion if you bring her the right ingredients. You have three lives, and also energy which can be depleted by coming into contact with hazardous objects.

Promotion

The game used a very unique promotion system. A mini-game for ZX Spectrum was created called Dizzy 3.5: Into the Magicland and was given for free with the magazine Crash!. In the game a player could see the story how Dizzy ended up in the Magicland. There was also a new character, Dizzy's cousin Danny who never appeared in any other game of the series.
