Sonic Blast

Game Gear Specs

Description official description

Sonic Blast was released for Game Gear in conjunction with Sonic 3D Blast (aka Sonic 3D: Flickies' Island) for Genesis/MD and Saturn. It boasted similarly rendered character sprites and colorful backgrounds. The game was yet another addition to the series, plus Sega had hoped it would be a boost to the dying Game Gear's title selection at the time. Brazilian based TecToy re-released the game for Sega Master System in 1997, a year after the initial release (while many may think this is a pirated title, TecToy is indeed licensed to produce and release games under the Sega name).

The Dark Ages...

The Good
How can MobyGames expect me to say anything good about this piece of shit? Well it's Sonic so I suppose it gets some points for that.

The Bad
As if Sonic 3-D Blast wasn't bad enough Sonic Team decided to give us Sonic Blast. Yay? No. Sure it had decent graphics for what it was but Sonic and Knuckles were HUGE! So big it looked as if they were moving slow (thus taking away the reason we love Sonic) and to top it off the sprites look like shit and half the time you can see through them!! And when you think it cant get even worse Sonic Team decided to place the ring counter near the middle of the screen! So if you were to say run into a large group of rings you would't know what the counter was and what wasn't. Boring ass boss fights top this off as Sonic's second worst game,

The Bottom Line
Never under any circumstances buy this!

Trivia

Kid's Gear label

Because Sega of Japan officially discontinued support for the Game Gear in 1995, the company released this game under their toy division "Kid's Gear". Because of this the Game Gear got an additional 12 months support. G Sonic is the last title to appear under the Kid's Gear label, and it's also the last official game that was released for the Game Gear in Japan.
