Description

The rescue rangers are tiny heroes. Consisting of two chipmunks, two mice and a fly... these heroes may be small but there's no case too big for them to take on. This game starts out simply enough, with a mission to rescue a small kitten, but soon escalates into a wider plot that pits the rescue rangers against their arch-nemesis, the feline kingpin, Fat Cat.

Fantastic two-player fun, but a tad on the easy side

The Good
IT's got charm, it's got nice graphics and most important of all it has great, solid gameplay. The music, while nothing awesome, is a great companion to the varied levels. Each level comes packed with imaginative enemies and the end bosses are awesome in their design. The co-op mode is nothing short of magnificent, as you can do almost anything from throwing boxes at each other, or better yet, throw each other around the stage. Just don't forget to work together at the common goal. Everything works pretty well, and balanced, thanks to the very intuitive and precise controls. The chipmunks really act like actual chipmunks, as there's no delay between you pressing the buttons and the chipmunks picking stuff up.

The Bad
It's just way too easy. As soon as it really starts to pick up, the game is over. And the bosses, while deliciously designed, are brushed off like yesterday's dust. Most of the enemies are dumb enough for you to just jump right over them.

The Bottom Line
Despite the low difficulty, the game still delivers on the fun part, especially in two-player co-op. A blast, while it lasts.

Still Remains One Of The Best Disney Games.

The Good
One of the many "Disney Afternoon" games that Capcom did based on the TV cartoons, "Rescue Rangers" really captured the feel of the show it was based on. Players could choose either Chip or Dale to solve the case, or team up as two players together. The game excelled as two things: A good Disney game and a good Capcom game. This meant strong gameplay mechanics, bright and colorful graphics full of detail and fluid animation, catchy music (and a good rendition of the show's theme song), and was simply a lot of fun to play.

The game had a lot going for it. One player, the game was fun, but with two players, the game really took off as players could help or hinder each other, so in that respect, it stayed true to the show, as well as adding more diversity to the gameplay. Capcom really understood the Disney formula, and rarely made a game that was less than average with its characters. At a time when Disney games were still considered "kiddie" fare, a few rounds with Capcom's titles often silenced even the most harsh of critics (from my personal experiences, anyway).

The Bad
The game was too short. It was a fun ride going through it, but it just simply wasn't long enough. The overall story of saving a kitten wasn't exactly Shakespeare, but the the theme of the show, it worked.

Players could only choose Chip or Dale, and none of the other Rescue Rangers, or even fly their plane. It wasn't crucial, but it would have been fun to have the option. Still, the other supporting characters did make appearances to help move gameplay along and even help out at times.

There was nothing worse than being killed off by your partner when he meant to grab a box instead of you. Still, getting into throwing fights had its own certain appeal to it.

The Bottom Line
This is a classic game that was popular for its time, though I think the series has run its course. Still, I wish that Capcom would reissue this (and Duck Tales) for something like the Game Boy Advance (Classic NES Series, please?), as this was a great title, and needs to be remembered as such. I believe there was a sequel, but I've been able to find little information on that.

Regardless, if you can find it, buy it and/or play it. A recommended classic from the 8-bit days.

Another Classic Disney-themed Platformer by the folks at Capcom

The Good
Disney's Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers is an excellent platformer based on the cartoon series of the same name. The two Disney chipmunks run, jump, dodge and throw projectiles at an assortment of minions, until they are ready for their final battle with their old nemesis; Fat Cat.

Rescue Rangers features great graphics, music, playability and the ease of playing alone or with a friend.

The Bad
Disney's Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers is fairly easy, except near the end of the game where it gets rather difficult.

You pick up items in the game to battle minions and bosses, but you can only pick up one particular item at a time and when you do pick up an item, it can limit how high you can jump.

The Bottom Line
Disney's Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers excels both as a platformer game and as a game based on a licensed franchise.
