Description official descriptions

American Conquest is a realtime-strategy game with masses of enemies and allies - you have to conquer (as the game-title suggests) and defend the American continent. The game features the wars and struggles from 1492 to 1813, a multiplayer-mode, up to 16.000 units, 12 nations you can play (from Hispanics to Sioux) and a 3D graphics-engine...

American Conquest combines realtime strategy with complex tactics features. You have to control huge armies, find the best formation and build up strong companies and find the best blend of long and short range units. There are 100 different units and 106 buildings.

The game features 8 campaigns with 42 missions such as Pizarro's Expedition, the War of Tecumseh, the Seven Years War and the American War of Independence.

GSC Gameworld also built in a diplomacy system, and something resembling a moral system. Wins and defeats influence your army's strength.

Also, you can play six historical battles in the multiplayer-mode. And nine solo-missions that aren't part of a campaign.

This game is a big disappointment.

The Good
The historical stuff was pretty cool. The controls aren't to difficult. It's fun watching all those guys march in line and listening to the drums. The scenery is pretty.

The Bad
It's overly complicated. If you try to build military units, you will be informed that you need to put villagers in the barracks etc.Units also take up food to eat, gold to pay them, and coal and iron every time they fire. This sounds good in theory, but it's pretty bad when you play it. When you're trying to survive an enemy attack, u want to be able to just build stuff, not have to build villagers, THAN bring them to point A etc. In the game, kryptonite has apparently turned all the animals into super animals. This will beome painfully apparent when a herd of bears slaughters 10 villagers. The animals are the most powerful single unit in the game. They will wander into your base and kill a bunch of your villagers while your fighting or doing some thing else. The game can be SLOOOOWWW!! When you get 10000 guys firing guns, it turns the game into, "OK, I'm going to let the A.I. handle this. Buildings are easy to capture. You can just get all your guys to walk by the enemy forces and capture their buildings. I could find no difference in the civs. Either Native American or European. I also found that the civs are not balanced at all. The Europeans will definitely win any battle. Although the Indians are faster, their units are all much weaker. This means that the Europeans can capture nearly any of their buildings with ease and the native Americans hardly can at all. Lastly, the Indians, when their archers attack buildings with arrows, they can catch on fire. I know that it isn't unrealistic, but it's just plain annoying.

The Bottom Line
Don't bother. This game is grossly overpriced.

Cameos

Many GSC Gameworld developers have a cameo appearance in American Conquest. An example is Oleg Yavorsky as an 18th century English officer in one of the missions. He is also on the box cover twice as an American native, together with other developers.
