EAX (Environmental audio extensions) is a proprietary Sound-API from Creative Technology, which provides digital signal processing pre-sets for DirectSound3D and OpenAL. EAX is only usable with Sound Blaster Live! and newer versions of Creative's Sound Blaster series, as it relies on a special chip on these cards for hardware-acceleration. This tech spec includes EAX 3.0 up to 5.0. Versions 1.0 and 2.0 are called EAX, as a different tech spec.
