Hothead Games is an independent game development and publishing studio based in Vancouver, Canada and founded in 2006 by Joel DeYoung and Vlad Ceraldi. The two met while working at Radical Entertainment and left in the Spring of 2006 to establish their own studio to develop games with a focus on digital distribution. The company often self-publishes its titles through its own digital distribution company Greenhouse Interactive Inc.
In 2009 the company has about 40 employees and is led by Ian Wilkinson (President and CEO), Ron Gilbert (Creative Director), Vlad Ceraldi (Director of Game Development) and Joel DeYoung (Director of Game Technology)
Hothead is best known for the action RPG adventure game series, Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, for a wide variety of platforms, of which two episodes have been released so far, in May and October 2008. The game is based on the widely popular Penny Arcade online comic strip.
In 2009 the studio ported two games: Braid to the Macintosh and The Maw to the Xbox 360. The studio's upcoming titles include DeathSpank and Swarm.
