Overview edit · view history

Groove Media Inc. was a Canadian company based in Toronto, Canada founded in September 2001 by Jon Walsh. It was best known for its retail publishing activities through the label Groove Games. The company also operated the European office Groove Games Ltd. in Dublin, Ireland, most likely starting around 2006.

Out of the company originated the development studio Bedlam Games Inc. Originally set up internally to develop games for the next generation of consoles, the two parted ways in 2007 and Bedlam became a separate entity. Trevor Fencott, originally president at Groove Games, left the company to become CEO of Bedlam Games. In December 2006 SkillGround was launched as a subsidiary. It offered an online platform to play against competitors of similar skill levels for fun, or for cash.

The company had a close relationship with the Canadian company Hip Interactive Corp. for the distribution of its titles, most likely because partner and COO Michael Haines previously co-founded Hip.

The company went out of business in 2009. Jon Walsh went on to found the mobile game publishing company ByteMark Games Inc. (currently known as Fuse Powered Inc.) in the fall of 2009, taking along a number of people who were previously involved with Groove Games.
