Overview edit · view history
Ralston Purina was formed in 1894 by William H. Danforth as a livestock feed store in St. Louis, and was originally named the Robinson-Danforth Commission. They began selling cereal with the brand name "Purina" in the early 1900s to local grocers, licensed the name "Ralston" from a then-famous doctor, and in 1902 combined the names to become "Ralston-Purina."
Now, Ralston Purina primarily sells animal feed (both domestic and commercial), with breakfast cereals a secondary business.
In the computer software realm, Ralston Purina has published and/or commissioned several promotional games over the years; its "Chase the Chuckwagon" for the Atari 2600 is a sought-after collectible.
