Overview edit · view history

Shatterstorm was a normal one-man software company. The man behind Shatterstorm is Sebastian Aaltonen. The young man published 4 freeware games before joining the Army. These games are Tappo!(1996-1997), Fight 2(1997), Tappo2(1998-1999) and I've Got Some Balls(1999). Fight and Tappo(finnish word for kill) are somewhat typical 2D shooters where you have to kill your enemies. I've Got Some Balls is a different story. Shatterstorm made it's first 3D engine in 1997 and 1998, which was tested first in A3D(a racing game which was never published) and then in Tappo Tactics(a 3D shooter which never got past a 0.3 beta version. It's playable, though, if you manage to find it). I've got some balls used the second version of the engine and was published in summer 1999. It was immediately noted as one of the most beautiful freeware games available. The new 3D-engine worked fine, was beautiful to watch and still fast. The idea was original and the playability was there. The game got very much publicity among finnish press and even international computer magazines noted the game.

Shatterstorm begun the development of two more games before Sebastian joined army in the beginning of 2000. T3 was going to be a sequel to the two Tappo games and I've Got No Brakes a fun racing game, but neither was developed or released. After six months of army. Sebastian updated and improved his 3D-engine, and gave it a name: Storm3D. A little bit after this he was hired by a small game development team called GDU and started developing I've Got Some Balls 2.

Currently Sebastian is working for Frozenbyte, making a bigger project. His 3D-engine has been further improved and currently it's named Snowstorm3D. Shatterstorm is not buried yet, though, as Sebastian has said that he would like to make at least one more freeware release, and that would propably be with the name Shatterstorm.
