Originally founded in 1983 as S.N.K. Electronics Corporation as the first North American division of SNK Corporation, but sometime in 1985 it became independent when company changed to Romstar, Inc. as SNK would establish second and more official North American division, under the brand "SNK Corporation of America", however, Romstar not only continued worked closely with SNK, but also focused on licensing arcade titles to USA from Capcom, Taito, Data East, Seta and Toaplan.

Romstar eventually folded into Capcom USA in 1994.
