Erbe Software, S.A.
Overview edit · view history
From 1984 to 1995 Erbe Software was the main distributor of entertainment software in Spain, where they had more than the 50 percent of the market. They also promoted Spanish software development by helping small companies like Topo Soft or MCM to get their products abroad.
Erbe's products were known for their good ports and localizations and a great marketing campaign.
In the 90's, Erbe was the only and exclusive distributor for such companies as Sierra On-Line, LucasArts, Infogrames, Acclaim, Adventure Soft and Nintendo. This helped them becoming the most important publisher in Spain.
In 1995 big multinationals (Virgin, EA, Nintendo...) started to establish their own subsidiaries in Spain which caused Erbe to loose partners until its demise in 1999.

The company ceases its activity and is bought by Ediciones Anaya.
An enormous fire catches the main warehouses of the company, destroying lots of its stock of Nintendo cartridges. It is said that this was the main cause of Nintendo's decision to found a subsidiary in Spain, and the begining of Erbe's demise.
Erbe lowers its prices from 2000 pts to 875 pts, whichs made a good hit towards its competitors. This helps the company to gain a high and superior position in the market, and represents a decisive point in its growth.
Company is founded by Andrew Bagney.
