Navarre Corporation is a publisher and distributor of home entertainment PC software, video games and accessories, DVD Video and music. The company was incorporated in 1983 and became a publicly traded company 10 years later in December 1993.
In August 2002, the company acquired Encore, Inc., where it continues to operate as an independent publishing entity, headquartered in Los Angeles, California.
In May 2005, the company acquired FUNimation Entertainment, based in Fort Worth, Texas, licensor and home video distributor of Japanese animation and entertainment for children and young adults. The buy-out included FUNimation Productions, Ltd. and The FUNimation Store, Ltd. The company would be sold in April 2011.
As of 31 March 2007, Navarre had 798 employees. The company and its subsidiaries maintain sales offices and distribution facilities throughout the United States and Canada. The company headquarters is in New Hope, Minnesota, and its Canadian distribution branch is located in Toronto.
