Daybreak Game Company was founded as Sony Online Entertainment Inc. (SOE), as a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Digital Inc.. On 1 April 2008, when it merged with Sony Computer Entertainment Incorporated (SCEI).
The company mainly developed massively multiplayer online games (MMO's), with major franchises such as EverQuest and games like PlanetSide. They also created Star Wars Galaxies, an MMORPG based on the Star Wars universe.
In 2015, the company branched off from the Sony corporation and took multiple studios and intellectual properties with it.
The company is headquartered in San Diego, California, with additional development studios:

The company acquires the PoxNora online collectible strategy game along with the development team Octopi, LLC. As part of the acquisition, members of the Octopi development team will form the core of SOE’s new Tucson studio, focusing on the continuing support of PoxNora as well as working with SOE’s Denver studio on new trading card and strategy game projects.
