Snowstep Development

Snowstep Development was founded on April 1st of 2004 by Markus Fendt, Pierre Flick and Lukas John and based in Düsseldorf, Germany. The focus was set to develop PC titles for the “general audience”, which later became known as “casual games”.

All three founders were colleagues at TriNodE Entertainment System and decided to found their own company after TriNodE becoming insolvent.

Over the course of four year Snowstep developed six titles all distributed internationally in up to 12 languages and with the primary focus on online distribution.

While being unemployed for a few months the three got together in 2003 and decided to work on a game for fun. Once the game took shape and the development progressed, the decision was made to form a company and to sell the game. The first game was named Froggy Castle and released in 2004.

From that time on each founder was assigned a primary role in the company. Markus Fendt became Art Director and his tasks were to sketch, draw, animate and model all the artwork and later coordinating freelance artists. Pierre Flick was responsible for developing the technology and most of the games as Technical Director while assisting on the Business part and handling the finance and bookwork. Lukas John was responsibility was the Business part as Managing Director and he also programmed in every minute he could spare. Design documents and ideas were developed together.

In 2004 the titles Turtle Bay and Incadia were developed. The first one being an arcade action game with a turtle trying to rescue his friends and the later being a classical match three game.

Since the first part of Froggy Castle performed quite well and the original design had still a lot of unimplemented features, a sequel was developed and released in 2005.

The year of 2006 was used to develop Stones of Khufu and in 2007 the game Sugar Pets was developed as final title for Snowstep.

Currently the company is no longer developing games since the active development was stopped in 2007 as each founder went on to pursue new challenges.
