Overviewzushi games ltd. was a game publishing company based in Sheffield, UK. They published titles for PlayStation 2, Xbox, PC, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS and Sony PSP. They mainly re-licensed and published products for the European and Asian markets.
The company was initially founded in 1999 as ZOO Digital Publishing Ltd by Ian Stewart, one of the three founders of Gremlin Interactive, as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Zoo Digital Group plc. In April 2006 it became an independent entity. In April 2008 the company was acquired by Green Screen Interactive Software, LLC which was renamed Zoo Games, Inc. in the same year. It was meant to be the UK publishing arm next to Zoo Publishing, Inc. in the US for the Zoo Games casual label. On 28th November 2008 Stewart and fellow manager Barry Hatch re-took control of the company via a management-buyout and renamed it zushi games ltd.
In the process they most likely lost the name Zoo as Zoo Games, Inc. launched the UK company Zoo Entertainment Europe Ltd. in June 2009 for the distribution and sales of the Zoo Games products. The Zoo Europe operations were discontinued in December 2009.
After their regained independence, zushi launched their zushi games label in the same vein as the casual games approach of the Zoo Games label. In addition zushi games distributed some Zoo games resulting from the re-take deal. On 18th March 2010 the company went into administration. Former employees set up the UK publishing company Funbox Media and picked up some of zushi's earlier titles.
