Alex Trebek

Alex Trebek was born in July 22, 1940 as George Alexander Trebek in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1998. He had a degree for philosophy from the University of Ottawa. He began his career work for CBC as a news and sportscaster for both radio and television.

In 1964, he began his game show hosting career by hosting Reach for the Top, then another show called Jackpot! in 1970. Afterwards he moved to the United States and worked for NBC and hosted game shows such as The Wizard of Odds and High Rollers and even a stint on CBS for the show Double Dare and then The $128,000 Question.

He then returned to NBC and hosted another set of shows called Battlestars and Pitfall, transversing between the U.S. and Canada to host each one respectively. In 1987, he began his long run on the show he is most notable for, Jeopardy!. In 1991, he became the first man to host three American game shows at once with Jeopardy!, Classic Concentration and To Tell The Truth (which he took over for Lynn Swann until its last air date of May 31, 1991).

Trebek's health issues began in December 2007, when was treated for a mild heart attack at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He stayed a brief stint in the hospital before returning to work a month later.

He would be diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in early 2019, but despite his excellent reactions to the treatments, he passed away in his home on November 8, 2020 at the age of 80. He was cremated.
