Biography edit · view history
Ed Kettler got started in wargaming with Avalon Hill's Tactics II at age 10, and has been active in board, miniatures, card and computer gaming in a variety of roles. He is employed in the IT industry as a senior applications architect, and is married with two adult children.
Ed got started in game design by creating the South Atlantic War scenario supplement for the Larry Bond's Harpoon miniatures game in 1991. This effort led to being a beta tester on the original Harpoon computer game with Don Gilman. His next effort was collaborating with Larry Bond and Chris Carlson on the development of the World War II version of Harpoon, Command at Sea (1994) and Fear God & Dread Nought for World War I. Ed also authored the scenarios for Command at Sea: Rising Sun, co-wrote and edited the scenario book High Seas Fleet for Fear God & Dread Nought. He has also contributed to several issues of the Naval SITREP. Ed has been a beta tester on military titles for Alliance Interactive, Three-Sixty Pacific, SSI and Ubisoft, and contributed to the battlesets for the Harpoon series of games.
Left to his own devices after winning the lottery, Ed would head back to college and get a PH.D in Military and Naval History and teach. He volunteers at an aviation museum as a tour guide and airplane cleaner, trading sweat equity for rides in classic planes like the Stearman, T-6 Texan, TBM Avenger, S-2 Tracker, C-47, A-26 and others. He holds a private pilot license, is a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and the Academy of Model Aeronautics. For fun, he and his buddies tie crepe paper streamers on the tails of their radio control planes and chase each other around the sky trying to cut the other guy's streamer for a 'kill' .(rccombat.com). Ed has a BS in Business Administration from California State University Dominguez Hills, and an MBA from Southern Methodist University.
