Biography edit · view history

Billy Thomson began his career in the games industry in January of 1996, when he joined as a level designer. After being thrown in at the deep end, he cut his design teeth on the original Grand Theft Auto. After releasing GTA he worked on Tanktics – an experience he’d rather forget – before moving on to complete Grand Theft Auto 2.

He left DMA and joined Rage (Scotland) in early 2001 where he worked as a Senior Designer on the multiplayer FPS game Mobile Forces, following which he became Lead Designer on the multi-award winning Crackdown, which has sold a little over 1,500,000 copies for the Xbox 360 since release.

After completing Crackdown he was asked to research and prototype possible game ideas for an undisclosed project alongside Barry Cairns.

He then decided to team up with Gary Liddon and Gareth Noyce at Xen Services, moving there early in 2008 to help the company pitch the design for their current project to prospective publishers.

Xen Group were successful with their pitch and recently reformed as Ruffian Games where he is currently the Creative Director.
