Philip is an award winning trailer maker and marketing assets creator. He has worked on over 60 video game titles for 3 AAA game studios and has helped create over 850 trailers, idents and developer diaries. He has supported releases on all major gaming platforms since 2006. A top voice of video game trailers, forming a community and forum on LinkedIn for video game trailer and cinematic creators. His work has been shown in multiple documentaries on the video game industry.
Philip graduated from the Bournemouth & Poole School of Film and Television in 1994 with a HND in Film And Television Production. He specialized in Screenwriting and was a finalist of the BAFTA Carl Forman Award and nominated for the FUJI Short film Award with "How to Hypnotize your Lobster", filmed partly by underwater cameraman Mike Valentine, known for Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Skyfall (2012) and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011).
After working as a freelance scriptwriter in Hollywood and the UK, Philip then retrained by attend the University of Lincoln (UK) where he gained a 1st Class Hons in Media Production and a love for Adobe's After Effects, which later secured his start in his video games career at Codemasters. His 1st Class dissertation "The adaption of British text into American feature films" involved the collaboration of screenwriter David Koepp (Jurasic Park (1993), War of the Worlds (2005)) and producer David Parfitt (Shakespeare in Love (1998), My Week with Marilyn (2011)). The dissertation was later referenced in the publication "The Cinema of Steven Spielberg: Empire of Light" by Nigel Morris (2007).
In 2006 Philip started work as an Assistant Video Editor for the computer game publisher Codemasters. He then continued to gain experience in the production of video game trailers, developer diaries, gameplay capture for promotional and in-game content. He assisted on the live action television advert for Operation Flashpoint by Susanna White (Generation Kill, Boardwalk Empire) and worked on 2 BAFTA award winning titles (GRiD, F1 2010).
In 2012 Philip relocate to work with EA in Frankfurt, Germany, for Crytek's Crysis 3 (2013) and was involved in the creation of gameplay trailers directed by Albert Hughes, (Book of Eli (2010), From Hell (2001), Menace II Society (1993)).
Philip started working for Crytek in 2013 as a Digital Video Artist, in a regular position, and then later at a senior and lead position. Contributing strongly to many of the company's in-house trailers for Ryse: Son of Rome (2013), Warface, The Climb 1&2 (2016/2021), Robinson: The Journey (2016), AoF and HUNT: Showdown (2018). He then was promoted to the Head of Creative Services at Crytek in 2020 and Director of Creative and Cinematic Services in February 2022. In August 2023 he moved to Director of Cinematic Services to focus purely on creating in-game content for Crysis 4 (working title).
Philip is a strong believer in giving young talent a chance. He is developing a free mentoring group on LinkedIn, Entertainment Industry Mentors, that allows mentees access to mentors from the entertainment industry. He also has given new talent opportunities to start careers at Codemasters and Crytek. In 2018 he became a full member of BAFTA where he continues to support the game industry.
