Developer Biography

Like Warren Spector and Sandy Peterson, Chris Bateman came to the computer games industry from the role-playing games industry, having been responsible for several cult RPGs including 'Avatar' and 'Outlands'.

In June 1996, he began working for Perfect Entertainment where he was involved in the secondary design and implementation of Discworld II and in the supervision of various PC conversions of popular games. His major achievement at Perfect was the design, script and secondary support of Discworld Noir, the acclaimed adventure game which was Perfect Entertainment's final product. His script for that game is the largest game script ever produced by a single writer.

After working on various projects that never came to term for Tantalus, Teeny Weeny Games and Fox Interactive, Chris decided that the time was ripe for a company that merged knowledge of game design techniques with experience of narrative structure and design.

In September 1999 he founded International Hobo Ltd, a games design and script consultancy which provides professional services to the games industry. The company has provided game scripts, designs and design consultation to a dozen different companies and has grown to become the largest design and script consultancy in the world. He is the Managing Director of the company, and holds a Masters degree in Artificial Intelligence/Cognitive Science. He has two published novels, is a co-ordinator of the IGDA North West UK, and sits on the executive panel of the IGDA Game Writers special interest group.

After KULT: Heretic Kingdoms, Ghost Master, released in 2003, was International Hobo Ltd's flagship project.
