Biography edit · view history

Richard Nalezynski was excited about video games since his mom showed him Donkey Kong at the bowling alley. Soon after, Santa brought him an Atari 2600 and he was playing games ever since.

After spending years in school developing his skills in software engineering and animation, he put himself on the map with his first public project: the technoloG Bonus Pack, a mod project for the original Unreal Tournament.

Nalezynski broke into the video game industry as a programmer for the America's Army game project, built using the Unreal Engine. From there, he continued to use America's Army as a platform for serious games projects at Virtual Heroes. Feeling drawn back to games, he spent some time doing contract programming for several companies, again working with the latest Unreal technology.

Eventually Nalezynski found his home at Epic Games, where he focused on spreading the word about the Unreal Engine, as well as ensuring that licensees of Unreal technology received an outstanding support experience throughout their development cycle, via the Unreal Developer Network (UDN).

In 2010 Nalezynski quit his job at Epic Games to care for his sick mother. He passed away on March 12, 2017 due to kidney cancer.
