Another year another graph!
Old graphs:
January 2011
January 2010
January 2009
Like previous years, the Arcade data is taken from Arcade-history.com
Some interesting developments:
- Like previous years we managed to add almost 7000 new releases to the database. We seem to be quite consistent in this number :)
- The peak of the late 80s is getting less sharp every year.
- Of the most recently released platform only the iPad is starting to make a dent so far.
- We now have more PS3 titles in the database than Wii titles. Also more PS3 titles were added this year than X360 titles, closing the gap between the two systems.
- The Commodore PET is now visible on the chart by the human eye! :)
- We have almost 3200 new releases listed for the year 2009
- Of the mobile platforms iPhone is still rising steadily and Android is also becoming more and more visible in the graph
Feel free to point out the effect of your own little projects this year!

Very impressive chart :)

[/Q --end vedder wrote--] With the help of Dolphin I took a few screen shots for Wii games back in Oct and their still not approved. combined with only 42 Wii games for 2011 it leads me to think there isn't a active Wii approver? and thus it's fallen behind.

[Q --start Sciere wrote--]Wii shots are tricky. Since the thread I want to show you is in the approver's forum, I've saved the page here, take a look and you'll see why yours weren't approved. [/Q --end Sciere wrote--] For a second there I thought I had 158760 points! :D
So the number to aim for is 848x476 to a 16:9 ratio? cause all my shots seem to have been approved last night on the default 640x480
GameTDB has 3200 wii games listed :pale:

GameTDB counts Gamecube games on that count, so the actual number is closer to 1500(I got my calculations wrong on that one, it is 3000+). But still, only 42 approved this year?

Even if we had almost the same amount of releases added to the database as in previous years, this year's graph shows the biggest drop in last year's submissions since you started tracking them. Any theories on why we're having trouble in keeping up with the new releases?

The biggest drop seems to be in Windows releases. I'm not sure which types of games we're missing there. Sicarius (who's no longer active) used to add most of the big blockbuster releases, but I thought Patrick Bregger pretty much took care of that now (props!). I think the indie scene is also well represented. It might be casual game portals that aren't kept up with, or budget games. Not sure which.

I know there were lots of indie Windows games I used to contribute that now are being mostly made as Flash games instead. Our coverage of the beat may have dropped off, but the beat has also jumped platforms.

...hmm... on the graph, what platform does the MD acronym refer to?

More numbers, more graphs, more perspective, etc.

I don't see a fall, just a stagnation? (Which is to be expected.)

If you're referring to the PC line in the graph, it's not stagnating (aside from the last year); the vertical axis uses a logarithmic scale, so a tiny increase in the top area of the chart equals a gigantic increase in the bottom area.
Also I think the "rise and fall" part referred to all the personal computers in that graph, not just the IBM-PC/Windows line confusingly named PC.
