I could have sworn that there are two releases of the PCjr version. One that also has the year of 1983 on the box, manual and floppies. Anyone?

Umm...with the PCjr released in 1984, it would be a stretch?

Of course, development was underway in 1983, and perhaps the box was expected to come out earlier? The KQ wiki certainly thinks so: http://kingsquest.wikia.com/wiki/King%27s_Quest_Classic

The first PCjr KQ manual certainly has a 1983 copyright: http://www.agamesroom.com/library/manuals/Kings_Quest_1_Manual_1_IBM_Version.pdf

as does Mobys own cover scans: http://www.mobygames.com/game/pc-booter/kings-quest/cover-art/gameCoverId,61075/

I'd think, as it was made a showcase for the PCjr, it was an enclosed game for that computer - may need a separate entry as such? (The PCjr version may run, but will show the wrong graphics on another PC model)

But the year - regardless of what the cover copyright print says, was not available to the public since the computer it was bundled with was not in the stores until march 1984.

I don't think it's entirely unknown for programs to be made available to the public earlier than the hardware on which the programs are intended to run ...

but one thing for sure, nobody was playing it before the computer went on the market!
