Look! MobyGames has porn right on the front page. And it's not surprising who is responsible ;)

Yeah, I saw that too, but it was already replaced. And I remember the time when porn games looked like this...

Where the hell is General Error?! Come and take a look at this, and then dare say older games were better! :)~

Hiding my porn on the family computer, I just renamed the file to a non-executable so it could never be accidentally run by an unauthorized party... so some decade and a half later I do still have it but god only knows which of those drivers and documents is it. A voice over my shoulder tells me that randomly renaming files to .COM extensions and trying to run them is not a great idea.

Libraries also have dirty stories in stock. You can usually find them filed under Miller, Henry.

Correct, as always! Unfortunately all the good nonfiction (with pictures) tends to walk out the door and never return.

It might be a good idea to have shots from games with the "Adult genre" be excluded from our new frontpage auto-screenshot system. That way, the information is still there to those who dig, but no one can claim that it's being thrust upon innocents.

agreed. with any luck that's a simple few lines of code that Brian can splice into the existing function.

No, but a lurid thumbnail from it was automatically posted up on the frontpage.

North America has an unfair double-standard where sex and violence are concerned. Depictions of violence are considered far less deleterious to developing minds as are, say, Janet Jackson's breast. (And as for frontal male nudity, well, we can't even discuss that!)

People visiting MobyGames' front page didn't have to click on anything to be confronted by thumbnails. And that could be some kid looking for an I Spy game.

Unicorn Lynx (181780) on 7/6/2007 3:43 AM · Permalink · Report

Yeah, but some kid could also easily see a screenshot with a depiction of people dying with buckets of blood gushing out of them, or people with severed limbs, or disturbing horror creatures... don't you think it would be by far more terrifying to a kid than a naked woman's breast, to which, by the way, he'd had a very close contact not such a long time ago?

If we don't allow questionable stuff on the front page, let's do it with all games rated 15+ or something like that.

grin One of my old workplaces blocked Mobygames under the heading "Online Games"... obviously we're not that, and several other sites like gamespot, IGN, etc were left unblocked... I didn't feel like making an issue over it, particularly as I probably should have been doing more work (well I was but... nevermind, I won't get into a discussion about corporate departmental politics :)

Months later, a manager across the building made a big stink when her favorite celebrity gossip website got blocked. The fallout from her complaints was that the company's filtering system was cleared of all it's entries and redesigned from the ground up...

I used to have it blocked too, only because the url contains "games". They freely allowed "sex" or "porn" though, which makes me wonder.

Not because that they are adult material. Only because to me, its a spoiler.

The very first customization screen allows you to view the girls totally naked! There are no "spoilers" there.

Some games take the fun out of foreplay. Who would want to live in world filled with naked girls? Sure it'll be fun after 10 years. And 10 years after that.

Er...nevermind. :p

Naked people are boring. The only things that make it exciting are if you have an emotional attachment to the person OR if it's something that you're not confronted with all the time (e.g. seeing someone naked is a special thrill if you've only seen them in clothing before). Plus there's that whole "forbidden fruit" angle.

Hey, nice name, Maw ;-)

I wonder if there is an actual sorting mechanism in place or if someone actually has to pick and choose - with all the stuff coming in some days that would be difficult. But when something was there, and then ISN'T, well, I have to wonder about the why. Had some trouble logging in a while ago, too....mysteries!
