Group Description
The Audio Interface Library (AIL) is a sound middleware system originally created in 1991 by
John Miles for DOS systems, supporting the myriad of different sound cards on the market through a single unified API, for both synthesized music and digitized samples. Later versions added support for Windows.
The system was sold to
RAD Game Tools in the mid-1990s, who renamed it to Miles Sound System. The system has continued to receive regular updates since then, moving along with the transition from synthesized to purely digital audio. Over the years, support for more operating systems and computer architectures as well as major video game consoles was added and the system remains widely used throughout the industry.
