Overall I thought NASCAR '99 is a very enjoyable game that deserves more attention because if you actually sit there and play NASCAR '99 I think that you will actually consider it one of the best racing games for the N64.

This cartridge is worth buying if you love professional race car driving. It's also worth renting if you would like to try a different racing game (there are a few). If you are looking for unearthly jumps or more of a science fiction storyline, this isn't the game for you, but if you have dreams of being on the circuit some day or you just have too many dependents to justify driving 200 mph, it is a good time.

Ansonsten ist Nascar nur etwas für den Hunger zwischendurch. Wer auf rasante Action ohne viel drumherum steht, ist hier genau richtig. Alle anderen sollten das Teil vorher unbedingt probespielen, denn das fahren im Kreis ist bestimmt nicht jedermanns Sache. Ganz so langweilig, wie der Nascar-Sport klingt, ist er gar nicht! Wir empfehlen zudem die Verwendung eines Lenkrads.

Ultra 64 (79 out of 100)

Las ! Nascar 99 devient très vite répétitif, et force est de constater que la maniabilité du soft montre bien vite ses limites lors des crash. Même en mode arcade, on a vite du mal à garder le contrôle de son véhicule. C'est bien dommage, et cela nuit grandement à la durée de vie du jeu. En plus, aucune erreur n'est permise. A la moindre encartade de votre part, vous serez rejoint par la meute, et vous irez terminer au fin fond du classement. Décourageant au possible. Malgré cela, le soft reste agréable à jouer, mais il est en deçà d'un bon petit Daytonna USA en matière de fun. Je m'attendais à un peu mieux de la part d'Electronic Arts Sports. Comme quoi, nul n'est infaillible...

NASCAR fans will be in motor sports heaven. But if you prefer a wilder race, like DKR or Mario Kart 64, NASCAR '99 may seem pretty tame. It's beautiful, but who really has the time to race 500 laps?

An above average racer that suffers from one major problem: It tries to be both arcade racer and sim racer, and doesn't truly excel as either one. But with only F-1 World Grand Prix as its major competition in the sim racing genre on N64, NASCAR 99 is fun enough for most gamers looking for a more serious racer than Top Gear or Rush. However, unless you're a die-hard NASCAR fan or a true racing nut, I suggest renting the game first before purchasing your own copy.

Vom Nascar-Thron stößt die N64-Variante den hausinternen PIayStation-Nachfolger sicher nicht. Von der Machart her reiht sich Nascar ‘99 in die Schlange der Zwitter-Simulationen ein. Wie auf dem N64 bereits des öfteren geschehen, haben die Entwickler sich mehr auf ein Arcade-konformes Gameplay konzentriert und dafür den Simulationspart etwas vernachlässigt. Aber bei einem Nascar-Rennspiel mit seinen schnell langweilig werdenden Oval-Kursen, sehnt man sich regelrecht nach spielerischer Abwechslung.

In the end, NASCAR 99 is the most authentic NASCAR game to date, and as it happens, the only one for the N64. But unless you are a NASCAR fan, you probably won't get much out of NASCAR 99. Let's face it. A racing game that is packed with straight stretches of road and a bunch of left turns isn't a whole lot of fun. As a casual NASCAR fan, I can appreciate what NASCAR 99 is, a really good NASCAR racing simulation. But if you're just a racing-game fan, you'll probably get tired of NASCAR 99 fairly quickly.

Mega Fun (68 out of 100)

Rennsport-Fans werden sich sicher über die saubere Umsetzung der NASCAR-Serie für ihre Konsole freuen. Wie nicht anders von EA zu erwarten war, wurden konsequent kleine, aber feine Schritte zur Verbesserung getätigt, so dass es kaum noch Anlass zur technischen Kritik gibt. Sicher, NASCAR 99 ist ein gutes Spiel, ob der uramerikanische Titel aber wirklich lohnt, auf dem deutschen Markt veröffentlicht zu werden, bleibt die Frage. Denn wer will schon die meiste Zeit auf einem mehr oder weniger ovalen Rundkurs fahren und nur durch das richtige Setup und weniger durch fahrerisches Können Top-Zeiten erreichen? Das ist für mich auf lange Zeit gesehen doch ein wenig zu trist.

Fazit: NASCAR 99 ist ein packendes Rennspiel mit deutlichen grafischen Schwächen in den Bereichen Farbe, Details und Konturschärfe. Der Schwierigkeitsgrad ist gesalzen, besonders wenn man nach 250 Runden aufgrund eines kleinen Lenkfehlers mir nur noch drei Rädern chancenlos ausrollt. Trotz allem ist NASCAR 99 eine Alternative und somit auf jeden Fall einen Blick wert.

My conclusion about this game is that it is a fun racing simulation with precise graphics and good car and physics adjustments, but that it chooses to simulate a type of racing that is just not that exciting. If the grueling experience of a NASCAR race is what you are looking for, this game is perfect for you. If you tastes run more toward mine, with an emphasis on complex tracks and scenery to accompany your racing, then you may want to look elsewhere to fulfill your need...your need for speed.
