All in all, BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle is a great 2D fighter that has plenty of depth with easy to learn mechanics. Believe it or not, the simple five button input system is intuitive enough when using a single Joy-Con for some quick on the go rivalry. The game looks lovely on the portable home console’s small screen too, making those table top matches feel even more like a coin-op experience. Even the net code for online play is outstanding, with a well thought out playground-style lobby system to boot. Just remember that if you are new to fighting games, don’t go in expecting to body the online world. It is just not going to happen. Well, not until you put some work in at least.

BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle is an utterly accomplished 2D fighting game. Bursting with content and featuring the visual spectacle of combat that uses up every single trick in the book while doing so with the possibility of calling up a second character into the fray on demand sets Arc System Works title as the de facto current generation game fighting game to own on the Nintendo Switch. While we certainly appreciate the likes of Capcom and SNK (via HAMSTER) safely releasing previously proven hits of the genre, we were beginning to wonder when companies would notice that Switch is more than able to accommodate current generation titles as well. A few strange decisions aside it is very hard for us not to recommend you make this title a priority among your future acquisitions if you’re a fighting game fan. Even if you're not a fan of any of the franchises represented in this game, you most certainly will be by the time you're done with this stacked fighting package.

Whether playing through the story mode alone or against hardened opponents online, Cross Tag Battle is an absolute joy with a surplus of possibilities within its wide roster and versatile fighting system. Even with all the ridiculousness of the overarching plot, I reveled in the charm of my favorite characters and embraced the many moments of fan service. It's a masterful unification of styles and mechanics from four different universes that compels you to dig deeper and dedicate the time to getting the most out of the beloved members of this cast.

As a whole package, BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle is a great experience for both those new to fighting games and to veterans of the trade. The game looks great and runs even better, the music is a collection of the best tracks of prior entries in the franchises represented, and the online runs as smooth as butter. The story mode isn’t some of the best, it’s serviceable at best, and the DLC practices are Capcom level of shadiness. The social aspects of this game are great and it’s easy to see that the online components were the priority, but this also means that primary single player gamers have been left without an arcade mode. When it comes to the fun factor, this is where BlazBlue shines the brightest. Arc System Works has crafted a fighting game that is an absolute joy to play. The game is so fun that I lost track of time way too many times and I definitely recommend this game to everyone who either likes fighting games or has been looking for a title easy to get into.

I ended up really liking BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle. The hectic gameplay, cool visuals and robust offline and online experiences make it one of the better fighters out on the Switch right now. It’s easy to get lost if you’re diving headfirst into the series, and to be really good probably takes a lot of practice. But it captures everything that makes tag battle games fun and delivers in one visually striking package.

Blazblue Cross Tag Battle is an excellent fighting game that I have been enjoying a lot. Its offline/single player content is lacking, but Arc System Works knock it out of the park where it really matters and deliver an excellent fighting system with great online (I think the fighting system is better than DBFZ). $49.99 for 20-25 characters and then $70 for 40 is a great price. Even if some of the practices are heavily frowned upon and they should've known better. If you are looking for a fighting game on the Switch look no further. Blazblue Cross Tag Battle puts up a fierce fight and will surely please fighting game fans on the Switch.

With BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle Arc has delivered yet another enjoyable experience which cements them as a premier fighting game developer. The game manages to be simple enough that beginners can enjoy, but supply enough systems to sate veterans of the genre. Unfortunately the Switch is not the hardware where you would get the most out of this title. If you have your eyes set to the road to EVO, perhaps consider picking this title up on the other platforms it is available on. If you are not set on finding FGC fame, then as long as you are willing to invest in a better controller you will find a perfectly acceptable addition to Switch game collection.

At the end of the day, I’m still satisfied with what I’m getting out of the game. While there are shortcomings in the Episode Mode and some popular characters are DLC to be, the core game has been a treat. It’s been a while since a fighting game has managed to strike a balance between accessibility, style, and pacing, but BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle brings these parts together with no trouble. Add on well animated sprite work and a full, fantastic English dub, and it all crosses over into a game I can’t seem to put down.

El título es muy vistosoa nivel audiovisual.Tanto el diseño de los personajes como los escenarios, que son la mayoría de ellos icónicos de las franquicias que nos ocupan (y que ya hemos visto en juegos previos) tienen un alto nivel de acabado. Las animaciones funcionan de manera fluida y a toda velocidad, con efectos especiales por doquier. Mención especial para las secuencias tipo Astral Heat: espectaculares. El título luce bien en todas las plataformas, incluido Switch donde es cierto que tal vez el trazado en dock no es tan limpio y fino que en PS4, pero que mantiene el tirón perfectamente sobre todo en framerate y fluidez. La banda sonora sigue el mismo camino, con melodías de cada una de las franquicias.

Por desgracia no todo es bueno y es que en el modo televisor se aprecian más los dientes de sierra y el hecho de que el plantel de personajes haya sido recortado y haya que pasar por caja para conseguirlos todos, seguro que no gustará a la mayoría (aunque también es cierto que el juego sale a precio reducido y su plantel base es bueno), pero más allá de estos detalles estamos ante un título muy recomendable y que sin duda tiene potencial para hacer disfrutar a todo aquel al que le guste los juegos de lucha y esté dispuesto a darle una oportunidad.

Overall, the Switch version is fantastic for everything but online play. The lack of anti aliasing is only really noticeable if you play with RWBY and other characters together thanks to the new sprites versus the older ones. I had no performance issues at all. This game runs like a dream in portable and docked modes. I can’t wait to see them bring more fighters to the platform after this. I just hope a patch improves the online and blocks skipping intros to have better sync between players. Arc System Works has a chance to be the defacto fighting game developer for the Switch right now and I hope they add the Switch specific features like Local Wireless soon.

If there's a downside to the game, it would be the cheesy dialogue and writing. Cross Tag Battle doesn't have much of a story, but what's included is pretty light and somewhat ridiculous. For a game that combines four separate franchises, you'd hope that there'd be a stronger plot that fully used each character in a clever, entertaining way. But most players won't be interested in the story; instead, it's be the action that will keep them coming back. Fortunately, Cross Tag Battle has great-looking graphics, upbeat music, and responsive controls. The game also offers many solo and multiplayer modes, with a surprising amount of content to unravel. Overall, fans of the BlazBlue series or the other Japanese franchises included in this game will love setting their favorite characters against each other in battle.

Thanks to gorgeous presentation, robust mechanics, and an entertaining story mode, it stands out as one of the better, if not the best fighting game this generation. It might not have the lineage of its competition, but it’s got more than enough to warrant a purchase.

Nonostante l’eccessiva semplificazione gli utenti più smaliziati troveranno comunque abbastanza elementi da approfondire, soprattutto sul fronte delle meccaniche difensive. Si tratta di un piacevole cambio di direzione rispetto al mercato, che tende a valorizzare sempre di più la parte offensiva a discapito della varietà di opzioni in difesa. La grande mobilità generale e l’allungo notevole di alcuni personaggi (in particolar modo di quelli provenienti da UNIEL) trasforma gli incontri in intense battaglie di "poke" dalla lunga distanza, da convertire poi in combo letali grazie anche al contributo degli assist.
