Mas aqui ela se superou. NHLPA Hockey 93 é o grande lançamento esportivo do ano. Reúne todas as qualidades da versão original com mais e malhores detalhes. Um verdadeiro show!!! A maior novidade é o ritmo da ação: jogadores e a torcida vibra como nunca. Não dá nem tempo para respirar. Pauleira pura.

Kommer säkert att hålla mycket länge. Även om man tröttnar för tillfället, så har man svårt att hålla sig borta mer än två dagar i sträck. Här har EA verkligen lyckats - igen.

NHLPA Hockey '93 ist zweifelsohne das Sportspiel – oder besser die Sportsimulation überhaupt. Kein anderes Programm ist vom Ablauf her realistischer und bietet zudem eine solche Menge an Features. Es macht einen Mordsspaß und übertrifft dank der nützlichen Neuerungen das Original noch um einige Pucklängen. Vielleicht fragt Ihr Euch, warum ein solch hervorragendes Programm keinen Mega-Hit bekommt. Die Antwort ist einfach: Electronic Art hat's leider noch immer nicht geschafft, einen Liga-Modus mit abschließenden Playoffs zu integrieren. Schade, aber wer weiß, was uns der dritte Teil so alles beschert, sofern es einen geben wird...

Solltet Ihr bereits den Vorgänger besitzen, fällt die Entscheidung nicht leicht. Ausgesprochene Fans, denen Teil 1 keine Herausforderungen mehr bietet, greifen auf jeden Fall zu. Spielt Ihr allerdings nur zweimal pro Monat im Kreis der Familie, braucht Ihr die Fortsetzung nicht. Daß sich irische Eishockey-Liebhaber die aktuelle Version kaufen, versteht sich von selbst.

Power Play (91 out of 100) (91%)

Eishockey-Freunde dürfen nach einer langen Entbehrungsphase wieder einkaufen gehen. NHLPA Hockey '93 spielt sich etwas besser als der Vorläufer, obwohl sich die Veränderungen in Grenzen halten. Die Mannschaften sind eine Ecke intelligenter, Tore bedürfen ausgeklügelter Angriffstaktiken. Dank der zahlreichen Spielercharakteristika identifiziert man sich viel mehr mit den Puck-Künstlern und muß strategisch geschickt aufstellen. Alles in allem wurden viele wichtige Punkte verbessert, nur die Präsentation läßt zu wünschen übrig. Grafik und Musik hätten ein paar Schönheitsoperationen gut getan.

A brilliant hockey simulation that contains everything an avid fan of the sport could wish for and then some. The problem is that EA Hockey does exactly the same job, minus the stars!

Spielerisch ist eigentlich alles beim Alten geblieben, aber da war meiner Meinung nach sowieso nichts zu verbessern. Noch immer ist jede denkbare Kombination, jeder noch so ungewöhnliche Schuß möglich, alles stets nur abhängig von der Geschicklichkeit des Spielers. Hinzugekommen ist ein Batteriespeicher, der sich alle Daten merkt, so daß keinerlei Passwörter mehr notiert werden müssen. NHLPA 93 ist ein Traum, ein Wunder in Sachen Eishockey und schlichtweg das beste Sportspiel für welche Konsole auch immer. Wer unter Euch sich auch nur ansatzweise vorstellen kann, ein Sportspiel einzuwerfen, der braucht NHLPA 93. Es ist der pure Wahnsinn.

Ein besserer Torwart, der sich jetzt leider nicht mehr so leicht überlisten läßt, volle Kanne nützliche und unnütze Statistiken und ein insgesamt deutlich besseres Spielerverhalten rechtfertigen einen Neukauf. Die Grafik wurde leider nicht mehr verbessert, die EX auch nur geringfügig. Aber das dürfte auch nicht von entscheidender Bedeutung sein. Für Fans des ersten Teils, die nicht genug bekommen können, sehr zu empfehlen. Nur ein Manko hat das Spiel: Es ist deutlich langsamer als der Vorgänger. Ganz im Gegensatz zu EA Hockey ist die deutsche Version von NHLPA Hockey ’93 nur geringfügig schneller als die US-Version. Schade. Trotzdem bin ich schon gespannt auf den neuesten Streich von EA: NHL Hockey fürs Super Nintendo.

All in all NHLPA is a great game, but if you happen to own a copy of the original EA Hockey it may take more than some nice little extras to justify spending an extra £40.

The Video Game Critic (B+) (83%)

The second EA Hockey game is an improvement, with a battery backed-up season mode, new goalie animations, signature moves, and real NHL players. Certain players can even shatter glass when they miss shots! During the intermissions, you not only view scores from other games, but see highlights as well! Perhaps this game's most infamous feature is the inclusion of blood, as seen in the classic movie "Swingers". When a player takes a hard shot and lies on his back injured, a large pool of blood forms around his head. It's unintentionally hilarious, and didn't appear in any other versions of this game. This was also the last NHL game to have fighting in it for several years. Another item of interest is a serious bug that lets you score at will by passing the puck straight through the goalie's legs and into the goal.

Luckily, at this point in time Genesis games have the most bang for your buck. I have seen this game sell for as little as 50 cents to as high as $2. In today's market, this game is a steal. So how much would I value this game? My value rating scale is based on how much I would pay for a game given any market. So for instance whether the game was selling for 10 cents or $100, the most I would pay for the game would be based solely on how much entertainment value an average gamer would get out of it. So, based on my evaluation of the game I would value it at $3. The strong gameplay and functional graphics will keep people involved initially, and the different teams and strong multiplayer gameplay will keep people interested beyond the time when they figure out how to score goals by the boatload. Beyond that, they'll probably just want to move on to a more advanced game.

Other than that, the displays on the screen are pretty bland, with three letter descriptions like DET or PIT instead of the logo, taking away yet more color from the screen. I often ask myself “why doesn’t this game get any recognition? Why does no one mention NHLPA Hockey ’93 when they remember old hockey video games?” Truthfully, I just think it’s simply because the game isn’t very good. It doesn’t have anything that makes it pop out and make you want to play it, nor was it ever a game that was remembered for being the first of anything. Unfortunately, it is games like this one that make for good coasters for an ice cold Molson Canadian while you play NHL ’96. I recommend getting this game for only less than a dollar or if it comes in a lot. Other than that, this is a game to pass on.

As we wind up for a last blue-line slap at NHLPA Hockey, we must first tip our helmets to EA for an excellent upgrade to a decent game. The addition of real players, the refinement of the play action and the inclusion of detail that only true hockey fans could program and appreciate, all combine to create one of the best action-oriented sports games we’ve seen. While it’s no Wayne Gretzky Hockey in terms of statistics and league play capabilities, it is a great time and just about as realistic and detailed as one could hope a cartridge game to be, With hoarse voices from a night of too much noisy fun, we give NHLPA Hockey two red and blistered thumbs up.
