Overall, Knockout Kings 2003 provides a rough, hard hitting good time for any Gamecube owning boxing fan out there. It provides a great looking, challenging boxing title which has enough challenges and difficulties to keep you coming back to get drilled on some more. Not only is this a long awaited boxing title for the Gamecube, but it also is one of the best ones out to date … and EA Sports shows once again why it will knock any competitor for the sports game title down for the 10 count.

Knockout Kings 2003 is the best installment in the series and a great title overall. I recommend it to any GameCube owner who thirsts for some great boxing action in both arcade and simulation categories.

If it were on any other system, Knockout Kings 2003 would be a competent, good-looking product. Facing literally no competition on the GameCube as of yet, it's a must-have item for the boxing fan. Impressively, despite periodic ups and downs, Electronic Arts has reinvigorated the commercial favorite, outfitting it for the current season with a number of welcome new features and surprises that both longstanding fans and newcomers alike can appreciate. Like Lennox Lewis, seconds after downing a certain ear-biting ex-champ, this game's standing tall, staring down at the competition with a look that says, "Who's runnin' this mutha now, homeboy?"

GameCube is the only next-generation console that has been without a boxing game of any kind to date. Electronics Art must have realized this and decided to bring owners of Nintendo's fledgling console Knockout Kings 2003, an exclusive offering, but also a game that is largely rooted in the work done with Knockout Kings 2002. Despite that it's not a totally new product, the new Slugfest mode, new arenas and fighters, and other various additions make this anything but a sloppy port. As the first boxing title available for GCN, Knockout Kings 2003 is most definitely worth your attention.

In the end, Knockout Kings 2003 is a great boxing game. It's not a simulation in the sense that it gives you the ability to do everything in the ring that real fighters do, like clinching, but it's a simulation in the sense that the game simply delivers a terrific interpretation of the sport of boxing. You can use finesse and box your opponent if you want, as well as go toe-to-toe, and the game's damage and stamina system rewards you for doing either well. The game looks great, plays very well, and offers enough of a challenge to last a while, which adds up to make Knockout Kings 2003 a must-own for any fight fan.

Knockout Kings 2003 is virtually identical to the 2002 versions that came out for the PS2 and Xbox save for the arcadey Slugfest Mode. Dope visuals and tightly-blended animations combined with pummeling sound work make this a aesthetic treat, though its sizzling-paced pugilism still favors button-mashing to true skill and finesse, which may or may not frost your Mini-Wheats depending on your taste. Absolutely worth checking out, possibly even purchasing.

Knockout Kings debuts on the Gamecube with the same basic gameplay we've seen on other consoles. There are a few new things here, but nothing that will make gamers feel the need to part with fifty bones for what essentially is Knockout Kings 2002 1/2. If you’ve played Knockout Kings 2002, you have no reason whatsoever to try this unless you want the Slugfest mode. If you have a Gamecube, but never tried Knockout Kings, you might enjoy it. I think I might be in the minority thinking this game is an absolute mountain of canine fecal matter, but that’s the great thing about reviewing a game. My opinion is my opinion only…and my opinion in this case is that Knockout Kings 2003 is just another quick hit to get a gamer’s $50 on a new console that doesn’t have any competition for it.
