Description

JumpStart Advanced: 1st Grade is an educational game for children aged five to seven in the first grade according to the US curriculum. It starts with an assessment test that determines which activities suit the child's interests best. All activities are still available afterwards but the game suggests a starting activity based on the quiz. The game's story revolves around a group of children who go up against the town bully Jimmy Bubbles in the JumpStart Ville Scooter Tournament. The player completes many types of activities linked to the racing training different skills. From a town map different houses can be selected for an activity.

Different types of gadgets power-ups need to be earned first and these can be used to customize the scooter in Frankie’s Scooter Design Shop. At a shop many types of decorations can be used to decorate the tracks. Edison's shop trains using exact change to buy the decorations based on the different coins. At another house the player can paint pictures to decorate the race tracks with billboards or create shows that combine art with music. Music can also be composed to be played at the winner's circle later on. Art is created at Kisha's by dragging elements onto a canvas and music by selecting which instruments ought to be used. At Eleanor's house reading comprehension is trained. After a story, news story, webpage or encyclopedia section is narrated questions about the content need to be answered. A football mini-game is used to train rhyming words. Pierre trains the order of numbers to build a snow bear while dodging animals. In another game a frog needs to collect letters in swamp gas bubbles to spell words while avoiding an alligator. Players also get to decorate pizzas with toppings based on instructions that train division. Another game trains sorting concepts and organizing words in categories.

Finally the race tracks need to be designed and then the race starts played from a top-down view. Different types of gadgets and power-ups need to be used during the race to get past obstacles. Each character gets to race with a custom scooter and a custom track. The race is played against AI-controlled players, but a multiplayer option is also available.
