Все, кто когда-то уже прошёл Resident Evil: Remastered, должны обязательно пройти переиздание этой замечательной игры. Ведь когда ещё удастся увидеть такое качественное HD-переиздание когда-то полюбившейся игры. Можно с точностью сказать, что это на данный момент это самый лучший ремейк, в которой буквально половину игры переделали, добавили новые серьёзные детали, контент и где даже был улучшен каждый игровой аспект. Да и не смотря на то, что игре уже более 20 лет, она всё так же может неплохо пугать игровую аудиторию.

Game Over Online (90 out of 100) (90%)

$20 is about the perfect price point for something like this. Don’t read spoilers, don’t use strategy guides, turn out the lights, and let yourself focus on the game for a while. Put away the cynicism. Yeah, in the cold light of day, Resident Evil is pretty silly, but if you let yourself react to it on its level, it’s frightening in all the right ways.

If there’s one game that deserves the remaster treatment, it’s Resident Evil. The thirteen year old remake is arguably the best game in the long running series, not only staying true to its source material, but expanding upon it greatly with new content directly built into the core story. While the HD Remaster isn’t a full blown remodel, what Capcom has done allows for an even greater audience to experience the Gamecube classic. The alternative control scheme ensures a new generation of gamers can play the survival horror title while quickly understanding the movements, and at the same time allowing old school fans the ability to relive the memorable tank controls. It certainly helps that the visuals have been touched up, and the PC version supports multiple graphical options and a smooth 60fps. Whether you missed out on the greatest remake available or you’re a dedicated fan, Resident Evil HD Remaster deserves to be in everyone’s collection.

I’m supremely glad Capcom has finally decided to open up this version of Resident Evil beyond the GameCube system. The game holds up shockingly well, a decade after it came out (or two, depending on your view), and is scary but fun to play. I had a few odd bits of instability when I played, but honestly, it didn’t drag it down at all. If you like horror games at all, this is a must to play.

Worth Playing (8.5 out of 10) (85%)

Though imperfect, Resident Evil HD Remaster is a good update to a now-classic remake. The core game holds up rather well after more than a decade, and when compared to some of its contemporaries, it's still gripping in the action and scares. The improvements to the controls help greatly, and the various technical options ensure that just about everyone gets a near-perfect version of the remake. The compression artifacts are disappointing to see, especially when compared to the work done on the polygonal elements, and some of the sounds could have been done better. Those elements don't cripple the gameplay, and fans of survival-horror will be happy to experience this, especially if they didn't try it on the Nintendo consoles.

Capcom hat den Horrorhit weitestgehend sauber konvertiert, es bleiben also nur gewisse Altersschwächen: Stören langsames Spieltempo, ständiges Backtracking oder irritierende Kameraperspektiven Sie, lassen Sie die Finger vom HD-Remake. Survival-Horror-Fans aber kennen all das – und sehen locker drüber hinweg. Denn die immer noch sauspannende „Resident Evil“-Neuauflage ist auch heute konkurrenzlos gut.

With hardcore survival games frequently topping the Steam charts, Capcom couldn’t have picked a better time to revive Resident Evil. It’s a punishing, but immensely satisfying game, even if the ‘remaster’ isn’t as dramatic as the title suggests.

Bei der Bewertung von Remakes stecke ich regelmäßig in der Zwickmühle. Soll ich das ursprüngliche (damals wegweisende) Spiel bewerten? Heutige Maßstäbe anlegen? Oder lediglich die Umsetzung der Verbesserungen benoten? Resident Evil Remastered HD hat den Vorteil, dass es das Spiel in dieser Fassung noch nie für den PC gab und das (technisch veraltete) Original in Deutschland indiziert ist; wer die Gamecube-Version damals verpasst hat oder einfach mal wieder Lust auf das ursprüngliche Resident Evil-Feeling verspürt, greift bedenkenlos zu. Persönlich möchte ich 19 Jahre mechanischer Verbesserungen in Sachen Videospiele aber nicht missen; für das Remake hätte ich mir mutige Modernisierungen wie ein komfortables Inventar, weniger Ladezeiten und eine Notizfunktion auf der Karte gewünscht.

Natürlich hat es seinen nostalgisch verklärten Reiz, durch das Anwesen zu laufen und beim Erforschen die teils haarsträubenden Rätsel zu lösen. Doch wer das Spiel kauft, sollte sich im Klaren darüber sein, dass Resident Evil auch in der Remaster-Version mit modernem Spieldesign nichts zu tun hat. Allein schon die Speicherfunktion mit den Farbbändern und sehr vereinzelt herumstehenden Schreibmaschinen dürfte viele jüngere Spieler nicht ohne Grund verschrecken. Gebt uns lieber ein Resident Evil 2 im digitalen Make-Over, Capcom! Das ist dem ersten Teil meilenweit überlegen, und ich habe es vor Kurzem erst durchgespielt, ohne wegen des Inventars zu verzweifeln.

It may not be perfectly tuned but Resident Evil is as pure an expression of the survival horror genre as you're likely to find (although the sequel might well be its match, I'll reconsider if I ever do find that copy). If you've never played the remake at all, it's worth visiting the mansion again just to meet Lisa Trevor, and if you've never played Resident Evil at all, now's the time. It's a slice of cultural history that has exerted enormous influence but has mostly avoided direct imitation. When something is this well-crafted, the flaws of a counterfeit are obvious.
