Description

Baltic Mission is a game in the style of Globetrotter, made by the same developer, but focused on the Baltic area.

The game was produced with the intent of spreading more tourist & business information about the eastern Baltic states; Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland and the North-Western region of Russia, when these countries were adopting to market economies - the target audience is Swedish-speaking only, with possible future translations not happening due to lack of funding.

The game has 22 locations to visit in the included regions, and additional cities with descriptions could be added by the players themselves, and up/downloaded on the games homepage - (this is unfortunately now defunct).

At the game start a player is asked whether to start a new game with the 22 built-in cities, or to create their own city, adding to it new descriptions and questions of the players own choice.

The default game has the player starting out in Stockholm, Sweden, in one of four roles: student, journalist, businessman or travel agent. In either role, you get a mission to accomplish by travelling to a number of cities and talking to people to gain specific information for the mission.

The player starts out with a small amount of money, and both hotels and travelling costs a varied sum of money.

Start with examining a map to find the locations of the train station, harbour or airport from which you can travel to your intended area. The map has a number of locations marked, some of which hold information, some questions, and other has physical locations. Sometimes a minigame can be played when a location is selected; picking out item or location names from images, a customs baggage check, a street hustlers gambling event: guess which cup a coin is hidden under.

After checking in to a hotel, it is possible to meet people in the city and have conversations - which mostly consist of questions about the country you are in, and you gain money for giving correct answers. If the person you talk to thinks you have answered enough questions correctly, you are considered a friend with common interests.

Once a mission is completed, it ends up in the local high score list - which originally also could be compared online.

As opposed to the original Backpacker series, you can not take any local jobs to earn more money, instead if the money runs out you can call home for more, a limited number of times.
