I love this game. The Tomb Raider series in my mind is one of the greatest adventure games ever made. Some people might say that there isn't much different from the rest, but why change something that is good? With the different areas and vast levels, any Tomb Raider fan will be entertained for hours on end. If you haven't gotten it yet, go out and do so or just ask Santa really really nicely and he might just put it under the tree.

Another fine effort from Core. I found the third TR to be the charm for me, you see I have always had this love/hate relationship going with this series. Yeah, I have always liked the character design (hehehe) and fascinating plot lines, but have never really liked the control or over experience. I usually end up playing a level or two and then putting it down for a while. Well, this one was different...besides the damn annoying levers that you still have to find the game plays out great! The levels are just the right size, the hi-res graphics look gorgeous and the analog control totally works for me. Overall, a nice tight package...

Despite a host of subtle improvements, there are no dramatic alterations to the classic gameplay formula. Although obviously inspired by the likes of Metal Gear Solid, the improved enemy AI isn’t quite as sophisticated or prevalent as we’d been led to expect – only occasionally do guards run off to summon help etc. But maybe it’s just as well: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Tomb Raider III may essentially be more of the same apart from a few new bells and whistles, but with gameplay as engrossing as this, perhaps that’s no bad thing. It still walks all over pretenders like ODT. This is a worthwhile and highly enjoyable sequel that no self-respecting Tomb Raider fan should be without it.

In conclusion, Tomb Raider III is a great game. I enjoyed figuring out all the puzzles, guiding Lara through the various parts of the world and fighting the different characters/animals. It doesn't solve the problems that it's predecessors had, but fans of the series will be pleased with what TR3 has to offer.

The sad thing is that Tomb Raider III solves none of its original dilemmas, and as it stands now, the exploration-adventure genre -- one that was revolutionized by Tomb Raider -- is in the exact spot it was two years ago.

Without a doubt, Tomb III is bigger, badder and better than the previous incarnations, but the lack of any major innovations in game play might leave some folks wanting.

At the end of the day though (and putting all the hype, creepy marketing campaigns, and strange celebrity worship surrounding the series aside), there's no denying that Tomb Raider III is a solid game, worth the time of anyone who enjoys a good puzzle/adventure title. Those who lost interest in the series with Tomb Raider II may want to give it another look with the third.
Nov 24th, 1998 · PlayStation · read reviewThe graphics are slightly improved, and the dual shock controller is supported for the first time. Unless you completed the first two games and are dying for more, I would not recommend this. A difficulty setting may have helped matters, but Tomb Raider 3 simply isn't much fun.

Lara's third and most difficult adventure.
by Michael B (331)
The Good
I liked the new environments and the graphic improvements of the game. The story is very original. Very good idea that you can choose the path you take within the levels.
The Bad
I didn't like the size of some of the levels. Especially the urban levels in London. Another thing which made the game difficult to complete was the lack in medical packs and ammunition. That made it more difficult to kill enemies.
The Bottom Line
A difficult game to complete. Try out Tomb Raider 1 and Tomb Raider 2 before trying this game.

An all around cultural adventure with deadly weapons of destruction and a gorgeous woman kicking ass!
by Antonia Lenham (3)
The Good
The game is brilliant for adventure. I love the idea that you can travel to different continents, and you can choose where to go. Whether it's India, London, South Pacific, Antarctica or Nevada.
Lara explores places where she encounters Indian artifacts, ancient meteorites, Area 51 and mini subs - Oh my! The rooftops of London and the icy wastes of Antarctica.
Ms Croft must use more than her wits to stay alive, which is why she's happy to have lots of new vehicles, weapons and moves at her disposal.
You get to train in her mansion, which is huge with lots of exciting secrets to explore one, which includes driving a quad bike in her back garden dirt track! You get a lot more out of this game than any of the others.
With her new outfits, weapons, vehicles, locations, multiple routes in many levels, new deadly traps, secrets, villains, monsters, dinosaurs all combined in brilliant atmospheres and entertaining music You can't not enjoy it!
The Bad
Looking from another’s point of view, perhaps some may not get on well with the controls and movements, but once you get familiar with them, you'll use them like a pro! This can result in some really cool actions!
Also some may get impatient, but the thought of challenging through the levels is an accomplishment!
To be honest there wasn't particularly anything that I disliked. It kept me on my toes and each level had something to look forward to!
It depends what type of games you enjoy.
The Bottom Line
If you like action, adventure, weapons of destruction, creative levels based on real places, exploring culture as well as using your brain, blasting big bosses with rocket launchers, speeding in quad bikes, racing down waterfalls with boats and using a list of her cool new moves. Then Tomb Raider 3 is the game for you!
Oh.. and last but not least.. Being in charge of a beautiful woman in hot pants (for the guys! she’s such a tease!) or the thought of world domination by a woman (for the ladies who want to kick using a female for a change!)
A brilliant game! keep the tomb raider games living!
