Description official descriptions

This compilation contains every Samurai Shodown game released on SNK's Neo Geo hardware during the series's life. Like Digital Eclipse's other compilations, it includes emulated arcade versions of each game along with online multiplayer using rollback netcode. Many bonus features provide historical context on the series and its history, including development documentation, official artwork, and interviews with developers. The classic games included in this collection are:

One other, previously-unreleased game is also included: Samurai Shodown V Perfect, an update to V Special that caps off the series's legacy on the Neo Geo. It features the same characters and gameplay as V Special, with several bugfixes, and brand-new story modes for every character. This game was developed in 2005 and completed, but cancelled after a single brief location test. That finished version is made playable for the very first time alongside a brand-new English translation.

Samurai Shodown V Perfect

Samurai Shodown V Perfect, the newly-released game in this compilation, was the stuff of rumours before this compilation was released. According to a tweet thread by compilation developer Brandon Sheffield, it was a skunkworks operation by a team of developers during the development of Samurai Shodown VI. Feeling they hadn't quite finished what they meant to do in Samurai Shodown V Special, they fixed various bugs and issues in the original game while also implementing a new story mode with stories for every character. It was given a brief location test in a single location, but was pulled as soon as higher-level staff at SNK found out and was never released. For years, a few blurry photos of its title screen were all that were known to exist. Luckily, a copy survived and was able to be included in this compilation alongside a brand-new English translation.
