Still keeping most of it like the original such as concepts and gameplay, I am beyond impressed with the quality of Destroy All Humans!. It has brought back multiple fond memories of this franchise whilst creating even better ones now.

Klar wirken manche Mechaniken mittlerweile etwas verstaubt und die repetitiven Gedankengänge, Nebenaufgaben und Menschen aus der Klonfabrik fallen genauso negativ ins Gewicht wie plötzliche Respawns, die mitunter geringe Zeichentiefe oder die Abnutzungserscheinungen beim Missions-Design, das aber auch ein paar amüsante Highlights zu bieten hat. So hatte ich wieder überraschend viel Spaß, mit dem zerstörungswütigen Alien sehr viel Chaos zu stiften. Abseits der audiovisuellen Frischzellenkur bleibt das Remake spielerisch erfreulich nah am Original und wurde nur behutsam durch sinnvolle Komfortfunktionen sowie eine verlorene Zusatzmission erweitert, die sich zudem prima in die Kampagne einfügt. So lohnt sich ein Blick nicht nur für ein neues Publikum, sondern auch die Kenner des Originals, die hier ein paar schöne Flashback-Momente in moderner Aufmachung erleben können.

Destroy All Humans! is een mooi herwerkte versie van het origineel, die ondanks de wat gedateerde gameplay en foute grapjes toch nog een zekere charme weet over te brengen.

(...) Klar, die letzten 15 Jahre sind nicht spurlos an Crypto vorbeigegangen. Das Spiel wirkt für heutige Verhältnisse weder sonderlich ausgefeilt noch tiefgründig, da hilft auch die ordentliche Schönheitskur von Black Forest Games manchmal nichts. Trotzdem hatte ich durchwegs meinen Spaß daran, Kühe zu entführen, das Weiße Haus zu sprengen oder die schmutzigen Gedanken eines Durchschnittsamerikaners zu erforschen. Wer also Lust hat, mal in die Haut eines Fieslings zu schlüpfen, sich die Erde untertan zu machen und dabei jede Menge Schabernack (Grüße gehen raus an Langenscheidt!) anzustellen, der sollte sich Destroy All Humans! auf jeden Fall mal anschauen. Zum Probespielen gibt's auf Steam übrigens eine kostenlose Demo.

Blasting through the bright and cheery 1950s world of Destroy All Humans! is a simple but satisfying kind of fun, and there’s a lot to be said for that. Just like the original, this remaster’s comedy is a little hit or miss but its attitude is in full force all the way through thanks to some overpowered alien abilities that let you mow down the puny human resistance like an overlord.

Das Remake von Destroy all Humans! spielt sich genauso, wie ich das Original in Erinnerung hatte. Das ist wohl das größte Ziel, was sich ein Studio für ein solches Projekt setzen kann und Black Forest Games ist das in dieser Neuauflage gut gelungen. Dies kann aber nicht darüber hinwegtäuschen, dass Destroy All Humans spielerisch und inhaltlich nicht besonders einzigartig oder herausragend war und auch im Remake nicht plötzlich wird. Die Action im Spiel ist spaßig und kurzweilig, die starre Missionsstruktur, die Story und der wenig subtile Humor sind mir persönlich aber nicht interessant genug, um ein Remake zu rechtfertigen.

It isn’t without its problems, but the Destroy All Humans! remake is a solid effort and worth a look for fans of the series. The gameplay is solid, the writing is great, and the upgraded aesthetic is definitely cool too. However, the remake also brings with it some problems from that original, including the hit-or-miss mission design and awful saucer gameplay. And that is on top of the various technical issues. Honestly, it kinda comes down to how nostalgic you are. I’m personally a fan of such games, so I’d give it a light recommendation, but if you’re not entirely on board, it may be worth passing or at least waiting for a sale of some sort.

Destroy All Humans! has excellent visuals and is fun for a couple of hours. But it's so redundant, uninspired, and devoid of any real energy that I can't recommend it to anyone that doesn't already love the original.

Or, to put it another way: Destroy All Humans! is a damn fine B-game from an era when publishers bothered to fund such things. I wish there were more new games taking these bizarre, silly swings at ridiculous ideas with sizable budgets. For now, I guess, remakes from a different time will have to suffice.
