Alpiner
Description official description
Alpiner is a third-person action game in which the player's goal is to climb safely to the top of various mountains. Each of the six mountains the player climbs has various obstacles which should be avoided: falling rocks, avalanches, wild animals, trees, and brush fires can all hinder progress. Being hit by these obstacles will cause the player to lose progress, falling down part of the mountain (some obstacles cause a short falling distance, others a long distance).
Should the player fall all of the way to the bottom of the mountain a life will be lost. To help anticipate obstacles, voice synthesis provide a warning when danger is near. Each mountain has a time limit in which it must be climbed, though the timer only counts down when the climber isn't moving. As the player progresses through the levels the mountains become higher and obstacles become faster and more numerous.

The Good
Large and detailed graphics (for the platform)
Music (although this gets repetitive)
Inclusion of speech alerts you to various hazards
The Bad
Transparency in the graphics means you can sometimes see "through" your character's head.
The graphics don't scroll smoothly, and motion is very jerky, except for certain animals (like skunks) and various falling objects, which are smoothly-moving sprites.
When you fall, the speech admonishes you in a VERY sarcastic manner ("Good move, sport.") which gets old quickly.
The Bottom Line
Go mountain climbing. "Alpiner" lets you scale six mountains of increasing height. Avoid rockslides and other "falling objects" as you ascend. Along the way, you will encounter many obstacles. Some, like trees, merely get in your way while others, like wild animals, will cause you to slide downwards if touched. At the top of the final peak (Mount Everest), you challenge the Abominable Snowman himself.
The early levels are especially easy to beat if you keep your climber on the side of the screen. There's a "wrap around" effect so you can pretty much split him between the left and the right. Except for the odd tree, it is very easy to avoid obstacles by staying in that position.
