Akū Senki Raijin
Description
Akuu Senki Raijin is a hybrid shoot'em up and four directional mech shooting game for the Famicom Disk System. The story starts with a sudden attack by the machine form Galem in the five subspace relay points known as the "Field". As a respond and to get rid of the threat, the Galactic Union sends the mechanized mobile unit Raijin, controlled by the player.
The Raijin's main gimmick is the ability to transform from a mech unit to a spaceship and vice-versa. Said transformation changes the gameplay from a shooting-adventure game with 4 directional movement and aiming through interconnected single-screen segments (similar to the first Legend of Zelda), to side-scrolling shoot'em up sections with fixed directions. The game also features upgrades in the form of different weapons and shields, which are purchasable along with their ammunition between levels.
