Glimmerati

Glimmerati is a good racing game that's made better by its story. It's rare to see a racer include any sort of story, let alone a good one. However, Nokia's exclusive title sets up soap opera quality scenes that you won't see anywhere else. You can't help but be N-Gaged with Glimmerati.

Talk about an ambitious title. Take the deep plot of Grand Theft Auto, but replace gangs and violence with high fashion, style, and the "beautiful" people. Then, put it on the N-Gage. This could've been the most disastrous game in ages, but defying all odds, Glimmerati is one of the most intriguing, unique, and playable games ever made for N-Gage.

Glimmerati takes racing one step further, mixing a great scenario and storyline with fast paced arcade action to deliver a very distinct title to the N-Gage. Most of the missions that detour from the tournament are based on wealth, media attention or women and it is entirely up to you which of the three temptations you want to enjoy. The behind and above viewpoint works well, the game handles beautifully and it all looks and sounds lovely. So come on, now it's your turn to step into the racing limelight and become a virtual celebrity - just don't let it go to your head!

Determined to engross and be successful at doing so, Glimmerati is an incredible N-Gage racer. I'd recommend it on any platform – DS, PSP or Gizmondo – but it was designed exclusively for the N-Gage. The challenging, arcade gameplay and the absolute wealth of objective types (and the way the game masks the concept of racing by asking you to avoid the press, etc.) make Glimmerati more than a glimmer of hope for N-Gage users. It's a hardcore game that all developers should look up to and work their butts off to compete with.

IGN (8.1 out of 10)

Glimmerati is good, campy fun wrapped up in a racing game. The theme is too over-the-top to ignore -- racing the privileged across Europe is souped-up sports cars, delivering models for photo shoots or proving who's a "real man" by going 180mph. It helps that the racing itself is actually enjoyable for the most part, with only a few runs that feel poorly thought out. If you have a neglected QD on the shelf, or you've found yourself mainly just downloading regular mobile games for it, Glimmerati is a good reason to put the MMC slot back to regular use.

GameSpot (8.1 out of 10)

Glimmerati is probably a game that every N-Gage owner should buy, unless they're seriously Europhobic. The lighthearted material is pure fluff, but it's also entertaining in a goofy sort of way, and the racing gameplay is enjoyable. Plus, there's enough gameplay here to last a good 10 to 15 hours, with all of the bonus missions factored in. Glimmerati may not let you feel the leather seats or taste the champagne, but it's a great approximation.

The N-Gage library includes a decent amount of games but they're not what I'd call addictive. Pathway to Glory and maybe Pocket Kingdom stand out as the select few titles that I can see myself replaying in the very near future, but most of the others are only worth a single play through. However, developer Bugbear Entertainment's Glimmerati is one of those very rare exceptions, a game that manages to stand out among its peers if for no other reason than it makes me feel richer than I truly am.

All About N-Gage (77 out of 100)

Glimerrati is one of the better arcade style racing games on the N-Gage, and for it what it does, it does it really well. But it’s not the earth-shattering perfect driving game that Nokia were pushing all through last year and into 2005.

However, if you can get past this or simply enjoy reading magazines such as Zoo and Nuts, Glimmerati offers a slice of racing action that's about as different as you'll find without ditching your four-wheeled friend altogether. The difficulty level isn't tremendously balanced (of all the performance motors in the game, you can win nearly all the races with just the fifth most powerful) and there are frequent glitches in the way that the cars handle, but then if you are seeking that kind of authentic racing challenge, this isn't the game for you - save your money for Asphalt Urban GT 2. For those with a taste for more exotic and erratic racing thrills, Glimmerati could well be your kind of club.
