As Gameboy Color games go, this title is great. It is fun to play, has decent graphics and the levels are challenging without being ridiculous. The music is annoying, but all Gameboy titles have horrible sound. If you enjoy The Simpsons this game is a sure bet. My one complaint is that it is so damn hard to see the Gameboy screen. This has nothing to do with TSNOTLTOH however. And can someone tell me why Gameboy Color games are so expensive?

Re-creation is exactly what The Simpsons: Night of the Living Tree House of Horror is all about. No matter how you pronounce it, THQ has managed to re-create a decade of Halloween specials into a single GBC game that's bound to give series fans hours of recreation.

Treehouse of Horror is a lot closer to what I expect out of a Simpsons game than the PS-X wrestler reviewed earlier (let us never speak of it again). This evokes memories of Acclaim's Simpsons classics of the 16-bit era. The multi-genre levels touch on all bases of platform-esque gaming, while showcasing loads of Simpsons lore and impressive visuals.

Although a couple references to the past Simpsons episodes were included in the game, like Mr. Sparkle boxes as well as Blinky the three-eyed fish, the gameplay is rather dull and didnât come close enough to presenting the vast humor that is found in the TV show. With a few of the gameâs flaws touched up, this could have been an excellent Game Boy Color title, however, despite problems, it remains slightly better than decent in my book.

Doh !

In the overall scope of Game Boy games, Treehouse of Horror isnât absolutely⊠ummâŠhorrific, but it isnât exactly poetry in motion either. Very basic gameplay with limited animations and graphics. I wouldnât be mad if I bought this game, but I wouldnât recommend it either.

Much like the episode type its based on, The Simpsons: Night of the Living Treehouse of Horror is a selection of disconnected ideas for unusual situations the classic cartoon family can experience, and just like those episodes, the quality of an individual segment can be hurt a bit by the company it keeps. While you can choose not to watch the worse segments of an episode, you must play through every part of this video game to get to the next one, and the unfortunate truth is that most levels either donât have much going on in them or are designed poorly. Margeâs shooting section is sloppy and stiff, Lisaâs stealth stage is mostly long and can be cheesed, the Robot Homer level is similarly long but must be taken slowly so it drags even more. While the game has some highlights like the boss fight as King Kong Homer and the platforming challenges in the vampiric castle, you must push through the badly designed ones and some passable ones for the rare but brief highlights.
