Zahlt sich Euro Force aus? JEIN! Hardcore-Fans von Battlefield 2 können –fast- ohne zögern zu den 10€ teuren Booster Pack greifen. Der „Standard-BF2-Daddler“ sollte sich aber gut überlegen, ob ihr statt einer guten Pizza mit einer Cola sich ein weniger großartiges Booster Pack zuleget, das nur auf wenigen Servern gespielt wird und obendrein kaum Neuerungen mit sich bringt. Hier sind wir auch schon beim Knackpunkt der ganzen Sache: die Neuerungen. Man bekommt für wenig Geld auch nur wenig geboten und die paar neuen Fahrzeuge und Maps hätte man locker (ganz hart gesagt) in ein Update hineinpacken können.

Go into the purchase hoping for some different and exciting weapons and you will be disappointed. Wenig Neues für wenig Geld: Dank Mini-Add-on mischt jetzt die EU auf den Online-Schlachtfeldern mit. Wie sich die Zeiten doch ändern: Lagen den Patches von Battlefield 1942 und Vietnam noch oftmals kostenlose Karten und Fahrzeuge bei, lassen sich Dice und EA derartiges Bonusmaterial für Battlefield 2 ab sofort teuer bezahlen. Den Anfang macht diesen Monat Euro Force, das Erste der so genannten Booster Packs, also eine Art Mini-Add-on.

Battlefield 2: Euro Force ist für Anhänger des Shooters natürlich ein Muss. Gelegenheitsspieler werden aber enttäuscht sein, da es keine wirklichen Neuerungen gibt. BF2 Special Forces brachte interessante Elemente wie den Wurfhaken oder die Nachteinsätze. Hier gibt es lediglich neue Karten und Waffen, die sehr gut designt sind und sich perfekt ins Spiel einbetten. Natürlich könnte man EA jetzt Abzocke vorwerfen, da man solche Kleinigkeiten auch per Patch hätte nachliefern können, aber dafür ist der Preis von nur zehn Euro recht niedrig und man wird ja nicht zum Kauf gezwungen. Objektiv gesehen ist Battlefield 2: Euro Force kein Pflichtkauf und nur eingefleischten Fans – wie ich einer bin - zu empfehlen.

Voor Battlefield 2 fans is deze Booster Pack eigenlijk een no-brainer. Euro Force mag gebukt gaan onder wat schoonheidsfoutjes en vooral niet inspelen op een paar acute problemen, maar het biedt vooral variëteit en nieuwe inhoud aan één van de beste actiespelen op de markt.

Die Vereinigten Staaten und China sind schon längst mittendrin, Ende vergangenen Jahres gesellten sich sogar russische und britische Eliteeinheiten dazu. Die Rede ist vom fiktiven, virtuellen Krieg in Battlefield 2, in dem sich die Nationen gegenseitig die Köpfe einschlagen oder Pixel-Terroristen aus dem Nahen Osten aufs Korn nehmen. Nun kommen wir Europäer dank Battlefield 2: Euro Force in den Genuss von virtuellen militärischen Konflikten. "Das wurde aber auch mal Zeit!", rufen Bundeswehr-Befürworter. Jawoll, sogar unser heimischer Leopard-2-Panzer hat den Weg in die Mehrspieler-Referenz gefunden. Doch im Gegensatz zum Vorgängerprogramm Special Forces ist Euro Force kein echtes Erweiterungs-Pack, sondern ein so genanntes "Booster-Pack".

This is a situation that will only get worse as additional booster packs are released and the server base is segmented even further. Still, if you're a Battlefield 2 fan who has logged dozens, or even hundreds, of hours playing the game online, Euro Force is probably a must-have. Despite its warts, it adds some great variety and content to one of the best action games on the market. And if you find yourself wanting even more Eurocentric content, rest assured that EA will probably make another if this one proves successful, and you'll have to pay for that one, as well.

Battlefield 2’s Euro Force is the first of the booster packs to be released for Battlefield 2. These booster packs only feature three maps unlike the full fledged Special Forces expansion released last year. Keeping with the idea of bite sized additions, there is only one new side in the game. Euro Force focuses on the introduction of the European Union into the game, which consists of a number of Western European sounding people who for some reason prefer to speak in English when English is none of their native tongue. And if you though the British were at the head of the army, think again, no British accents can be found on the EU side.

Battlefield 2: Euro Force is a booster pack available from EA's download service. It doesn't have as much content as a full-blown expansion, but that's why it only costs ten dollars. What you'd be getting are four new maps, two tanks, one attack chopper, and a European jet. Players can take on the role of the elite Euro Force, who play almost identically to the core factions that already exist in Battlefield 2. The primary appeal of this booster come from the maps, which provide a nice variety of gameplay and justify the download even though they don't support 64 players.

Ob ich als Sani eine Famas oder eine M16 dabei habe, ist mir relativ schnurz. Und wie mein Panzer aussieht auch. Für mich braucht ein Battlefield-2-Addon frisches Material, etwa die Blendgranaten oder Kletterseile in Special Forces, sowie eine Ladung neuer Karten. Zusätzliche Ausrüstung gibt's in Euro Force nicht, und drei Maps sind viel zu wenig. So etwas ist in anderen Shootern umsonst, Electronic Arts! Und wenn ich schon zehn Euro zahle, könnte man mir wenigstens den Download-Krampf ersparen. Als Patch okay, gegen Geld: No way!

There's no question that Battlefield 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. With over two hundred hours logged, and no end in sight, I've played this game probably more than any other. The first of two announced "booster packs" for the core game, Euro Force (currently available for $9.99 exclusively via download from EA's website) brilliantly adds some much-needed meat in the form of three awesome new maps. As good as the new maps are, though, it's impossible to separate them from the main game, which still suffers from a number of infuriating problems.

Abgesehen von den nervigen Problemen bei der Installation bin ich ziemlich enttäuscht, dass ein derartiges Update kostenpflichtig angeboten wird. Die neue Fraktion inklusive Waffen und Fahrtzeugen ändert erwartungsgemäß nichts am Spielprinzip. Lediglich die drei (!) neuen Karten rechtfertigen den Kauf ansatzweise. Erschreckend finde ich, dass BF 2 nach fast einem Jahr noch immer nicht perfekt läuft. Das Spiel stürzt selbst mit Patch 1.21 im Multiplayer ab, und viele Server sind aufgrund übler Lags ungenießbar.

Booster packs are a strange concept, while I don't necessarily disagree with the idea, I have a feeling that it will segment the Battlefield 2 community somewhat, and that is not a good thing. There will be those that simply must have any and all new BF2 content, me included, and those who won't buy any expansions until they have proved their worth. That's without doubt going to split the number of servers and effectively give you a number of smaller communities, this has already happened with the Special Forces expansion to some degree and is now happening again with the Euro Force booster pack, presumably things will be further complicated by the next booster pack release. I would hope that EA are having a good think about what they are doing, Battlefield 2 has been growing steadily in the online rankings and some would say it's even catching Counter-Strike in terms of player numbers.

Hormis la sortie de la carte Wake Island (remake de la version pour Battlefield 1942), les passionnés de Battlefield 2 devaient se contenter, en guise d'ajout au jeu, soit de l'extension Forces Spéciales, soit des quelques embryons de mods faits par la communauté de joueurs. Avec la mini-extension Euro Force (booster pack si vous préférez), Electronic Arts vient donc combler ce vide, en proposant de quoi améliorer le quotidien des joueurs : une nouvelle faction, trois cartes ainsi que diverses armes et véhicules. Tout cela est très bien, à un petit détail près : ces ajouts sont payants, et vous coûteront précisément la somme de 9.99 €.

Great Wall's great in some of the same ways. Snipers roost along its section of the 4,000-mile-long Chinese fortification, often too occupied pointing at one another to pick on the many engineers barricading pinch points below. And armor, assertive in the outlying fields, gets apprehensive within the central compound’s walls where it needs tank-infantry teams to mind C4 and mines. If saggy-diaper skies and glum texture work spoil the atmosphere, layoutwise it’s a gem. Taraba Quarry, however, is characterless on all counts (neither GameSpy nor GameSpot's Euro Force reviews call the spade a spade, but vacated servers and griefing—so often a sign of boredom—say otherwise).
